BUSH TELEGRAPH:

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 29th:

With the abandonment of Fairyhouse, the day has been robbed of its quality, washed away by floods. The going description I have for Leicester prompts me to wonder if Leicester is indeed situated in this country! Chase: Good to Firm – Firm in places. Hurdles: Good to Soft – Good in places. Well, if they say so!

On the betting front nothing takes the eye today, so I am suggesting a break.  On that note, Bush Telegraph will absent until December 8th. Enjoy Sandown’s Tingle Creek meeting next weekend. If it provides only half the entertainment of Newbury, it should be a good meeting.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 28th:

Once again we have a fine day of racing, but as far as betting is concerned opportunities are somewhat thin on the ground.:

NEWBURY RACING TIPS:

12.25: Highest Start lines up with useful French Flat form to his credit but at present there is no indication that the stable fancies him.

2.40: The presence of Denman has turned this into a tempting chocolate box full of treats for horses required to carry considerably less than they would normally. However, as with a box of chocolates, it is difficult to make an outright selection. State Of Play, Snowy Morning and War Of Attrition appeal as those most likely to capitalise on the construction of the handicap. I will not be shocked to see Denman win, but believe it is too big an ask. Barbers Shop is an unlikely stayer, so am drawn to the lurkers at the foot of the handicap. I feel this is where we should concentrate our efforts. The edge here may be to play the market, but too many factors prevail to start constructing a spread. For a start we have to be right about Denman; then to pick the right one from six possible winners. It is better in my view to stick to one. Having talked myself into former Gold Cup winner War Of Attrition, at the price I cannot allow him to run unbacked. On some runs, with his almost featherweight, he could roll back the years. It may be a big shout, but 40/1 is a big price!

NEWCASTLE RACING TIPS:

1.50: The word for Binocular is strong; apparently the Champion Hurdle has his name on it already. But in Solwit he faces a horse that is fit and will line up on an upward curve and prepared to stake his Cheltenham claim this afternoon. Messages aside, forced to make a selection, I would be with Solwit on this occasion, but because I could be wrong I shall keep out of the race.

2.25: Whatever the fate of Binocular, Nicky Henderson should not leave the North East empty-handed as Quantitativeeasing is said to be a very useful recruit to hurdling and not that far behind yesterday’s impressive Newbury winner Belvano.

BUSH TELEGRAPH:

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 27tH:

NEWBURY RACING TIPS:

2.05: There has to be a question mark over Balthazar King lasting the trip in this his first venture over three miles and on very testing ground. Such a codicil is off-putting but he remains the interesting runner in this handicap.

3.45: Bellvano is described as one of Nicky Henderson’s smarter novices and is expected to add to his tally in the last.

WOLVERHAMPTON RACING TIPS:

6.50: Esuvia is not an original selection but her third to London Gold at Doncaster looks good enough in the light of today’s opposition. Being sprint bred, one would imagine this drop in distance will also be to her advantage and she should open her account.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 26th:

TAUNTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

2.15: Swansbrook is one of two Alan King’s runners fancied on this card…

2.50: Sahrati is the other.

NEWBURY HORSE RACING TIPS:

Looks the sort of meeting that may yield items of interest later.

KEMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

6.00: For the time being the best of the day is seen here in Count Of Anjou. Lost in a bog last time, a step forward on a run of definite promise first time at Newbury would see him hard to beat this evening.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

WEDNESDAY NOVEMEBER 25th:

LINGFIELD HORSE RACING TIPS:

12.30: Despite a slightly off-putting profile – just three wins in a career encompassing thirty-three runs and a lengthy absence – Mambo Spirit is fancied to add to his tally in this handicap.

2.35: Street Entertainer has to get the call over a disappointing Whistleinthewind, who had everything in his favour last time and failed to deliver. A small type, it may be he lacks scope and will struggle in this sort of company. Street Entertainer has a similar form profile, but his run last time was a definite step in the right direction and is taken to come out on top.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 24th:

Another rain-sodden day with even the card at Southwell looking like something straight out of the Mandarin Times.

However, there is a message for Suntini in the 12.40 at Lingfield. A horse that goes best fresh, and capable of handling the ground, he should go well but is no good thing for those of you saving up for Christmas!

 BUSH TELEGRAPH:

MONDAY NOVEMBER 23rd:

  KEMPTON RACING TIPS:

12.20: Candy Creek has been nominated as the best on the day from Nicky Henderson’s stable. For those interested in betting today in what is likely to be atrocious conditions, she could be coupled with a fancied You’re The Top in the 12.50.

Two others to make up a foursome are Whiteoak in the 1.25. She did disappoint at Wincanton on debut but this extra trip may suit a mare that appeared to be unable to go the gallop that day. She will appreciate racing against her own sex.

LUDLOW RACING TIPS:

12.30: Royal Collongues is another that appears to have plenty going for him and completes the numbers. The trip will be no problem and recent form has been franked.   So there we have an uninspired collection on the day but, as we all know, short-priced horses invariably come out of the John Cleese file entitled ‘The Bleedin’ Obvious’, which is no problem if they all win. There is no point in backing singularly on such a day, so it is easy a case of a betting in multiples or leaving the day to its own devices.

 BUSH TELEGRAPH:

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 22nd:

AINTREE RACING TIPS:

12.33: This is one of several tough races to solve on a day that may be best left alone. However, there is a chance of calling this correctly as Bible Lord seems to have set the race up for a couple of better treated rivals. The race could rest between Nudge And Nurdle and The Sawyer. Nudge And Nurdle relishes soft ground and his stable are in sparkling form. The Sawyer tied up in the closing stages last time at Cheltenham so this drop back in trip looks likely to suit.

TOWCESTER RACING TIPS:

2.45: Gentle Caribou, a bumper winner at this track and a mare with form on desperate ground, may be the answer to this.

  BUSH TELEGRAPH:

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 21ST:

I suggest this is a day for the racing connoisseur to savour rather than one for the punter to chance his arm. Quality abounds but the feature races may not be so easily solved.

ASCOT RACING TIPS:

Stages two top class events with the hurdlers staking claims in the Coral Hurdle at 14.35. Zaynar is tricky to evaluate. He may well drift in the betting as apparently he is bone idle at home and has shown little to get excited about of late. It was the same story last year but he emerged unbeaten and is not one to oppose lightly. He does have to concede 4lbs to Katchit, who along with Karabak will test last year’s Triumph Hurdle winner. With Lough Derg and Elusive Dream in the line-up, this is no straightforward contest and one best watched.

3.10: Planet Of Sound is taken to supplement his recent Exeter win over a trip that may be ideal.

HAYDOCK RACING TIPS:

2.55: With the ground riding so soft there has to be a question mark hanging over Kauto Star – a horse I am constantly trying to get beaten, mostly to my cost. He faces a possible star in Notre Pere, who blotted his copybook at Down Royal, but in the main is a sound jumper and will relish conditions. This will be no walk in the park for Kauto Star. Notre Pere is taken to beat him.

HUNTINGDON RACING TIPS:

12.05: Asturienne is strongly fancied and Zarinski looks capable of making amends for his Sandown defeat in the 1.05, although Space Telescope will strip fitter today. Both will be short and are only recommended as possibles for multiple bets.

LINGFIELD RACING TIPS:

3.40: Tranquil Tiger is fancied by his stable to make the weight count against Presvis. Again i am playing the role of messenger here and have no particular view. Planet Of Sound comes closest to being a bet at this morning’s price.

 BUSH TELEGRAPH:

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 20th:

 ASCOT RACING TIPS:

1.30: Zemsky is strongly fancied to win his first chase at the expense of Awesome George. Nicky Henderson’s charge has been showing all the right moves at Seven Barrows.

2.05: Manyriverstocross faces a potentially tough opponent in Vino Grieo here but jumped slickly at Chepstow and is hard to oppose. He ought to win but will be tested by a well thought of newcomer to the hurdling ranks.

3.50: Zabeel Palace is likely to be all the rage here, particularly as his latest run involved finishing second to the progressive Harry Tricker. This ground may not be ideal however, whilst Sunsetten – hailing from an in-form stable – has also form with Harry Tricker that suggests he could represent value after a recent spin that will have put an edge on him.

WOLVERHAMPTON RACING TIPS :

For those in for the long haul, Camerooney justifies a second look in the 9.20. This is a poor contest and a recent run four days ago ensures there are no fitness doubts. He has the look of a horse out to earn his keep tonight.

 BUSH TELEGRAPH:

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 19TH:

  Messages first:

WINCANTON RACING TIPS:

1.30: Sagalyrique is said to be the best of the Alan King contingent today after a recent run. There is a feeling in the stable that their runners, not having worked on the grass due to weather conditions, are needing their initial outings so there should be no excuses today.

HEREFORD RACING TIPS:

12.50: Causeway King does have a penalty top shoulder but his form has been franked and is expected to follow up.

HUNTINGDON RACING TIPS:

1.40: One time Triumph Hurdle hope Mount Helicon did have a disappointing first season but looks leniently treated in this, his first venture in a handicap. There is no word for him but his class may carry him to victory.

2.10: Dave’s Dream is another potential star on this card. Built to be a chaser through and through, to the extent respected judges at Seven Barrows labelled him a Gold Cup prospect last year, he has not been easy to train. Surely it will be a major reversal if he fails to cope with Numide and company in this his debut over the bigger obstacles.

KEMPTON RACING TIPS:

6.00: This handicap looks tailor-made for Earlsmedic who has the marginal beating of Fantasy Believer and appears to be running into form.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

WEDNESDAY 18th November:

LINGFIELD HORSE RACING TIPS:

12.30: If I Were A Boy was a little unlucky last time at Wolverhampton and is fancied to take this. Her form at Goodwood gives her every chance granted the breaks and in Ryan Moore she has the ideal partner.

1.30: Jarrow looks like a short-priced banker for this.

2.00: Gallantry is now ready to win and if luck does not favour him today he should be followed until it does. Denied a run last time, he would have finished much closer in a bunch finish had the door not slammed in his face when starting to pick up. The mark is right, the trip likewise and he faces appropriate company.

3.00: Troopingthecolour has the ideal opportunity to break his duck in this maiden. Second to Black Eagle, his overall form gives him strong claims and he should be too good for the Godolphin newcomer.

KEMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

8.50: Khor Dubai is expected to provide Godolphin with a winner today. He does have bits of form that suggest he is a standout. After a decent effort at Doncaster last time, last year’s winner Confuchias has to be respected and should be thereabouts but would struggle to beat an on-song Khor Dubai.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

TUESDAY 17th November:

FOLKESTONE HORSE RACING TIPS:

2.40: Just the one suggestion today and that is William Bonney. Fit and fresh from a recent pipe-opener, Charlie Mann’s representative has the advantage of form on this idiosyncratic track, which is seen as a bonus. He also seems best at this time of year and has the look of a horse earmarked for this event. Nikos Extra ran last time as if such a tight course and easy ground will count against him. Whilst other dangers exist, William Bonney is taken to score.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

MONDAY 16th November:

I fear we shall not be getting rich today; nevertheless a few opportunities await those that are up for it:

WOLVERHAMPTON HORSE RACING RACING TIPS:

4.00: This may be a bit chancy from the nine draw, but Gilt Edge Girl looks to have a rattling good form claim, particularly on her run at Ascot when beaten just over a length in a £12,000 handicap the time before last from this mark of 85. Subsequent winner Servoca was just behind, and Gilt Edge Girl’s following effort at Pontefract confirmed her to be in good heart. She may be worth risking as she faces lesser opposition today.

PLUMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

Bread and butter stuff is supplied by:

1.50: The Betchworth Kid who has impressed at home in his spins over timber and is fully expected to make a winning appearance over this new code.

2.20: The stable seem to feel the right opportunity has been found for Bensalem in a race that should not take much winning.

BUSH TELEGRAPH:

SUNDAY 16th NOVEMBER:

CHELTENHAM RACING TIPS:

Surely the opening two races are of the watching variety.

2.20: Is a tough looking handicap but by and large consists of horses correctly assessed by the handicapper. There is a word for Harry Tricker, who must have a chance, and there are a couple of unknown quantities in the race, like for example, Ronaldo Des Mottes and Silverhand; however, neither seems to have been let in the side door. One that could be well treated is Cockney Trucker. He charged at his fences like a bull in the veritable china shop at Ascot, but on a return to hurdling, having run with credit in top class company last term, appeals as the horse with a chance at the weights.

4.00: Alan King fields a horse reckoned to be a future star here in Lidar. Apparently he will improve for the run so the strong word for Ghiizao should be heeded.

At FONTWELL, King’s Revenge is worth one more chance in a sub-standard twenty grand event following a decent run last time. This could just be his day.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 14th:

CHELTENHAM HORSE RACING TIPS:

This is surely more of a sporting occasion than a meeting at which to try and make money betting. My one suggestion is in the Paddy Power chase at 2.35 and that is According To Pete. Already the subject of some exchange interest this morning, this eight-year-old has the profile associated with this tough event. Progressive last season and a chaser that has been brought along steadily, a recent spin on the Flat will have sharpened him up. At home on soft ground, with a clear round he should go well.

LINGFIELD HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.00: Whistleinthewind only has to reproduce his debut run at Bath – when second to Database with Spa’s Dancer in third – to open his account in this maiden. Slowly away that day, with the experience behind him and a good draw, he is a confident selection.

2.30: Black Eagle should win this.

3.05: This handicap is set up for Exclamation who should finally get off the mark for the year. He ran well at Southwell last time on a track unlikely to bring out the best in him. A return to early season form at Newmarket gives him a clear cut chance.

3.35: Ektimaal did us a favour in winning a weak event last time but will find this an altogether tougher assignment. Drawnfromthepast and Sunrise Safari appeal as the two most likely winners but the former, although showing signs of recovering his form, has yet to categorically do so, and Safari Sunset does not have the best of the draw. Maybe a race to dabble in if things have gone right up to that point.

  BUSH TELEGRAPH:

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 13th:

It is to be hoped the weather does not cause havoc at CHELTENHAM, a meeting awaited with anticipation by fans.

1.15: This is a tough start and anyone arriving at the course late may turn out to be grateful. The potentially classy Razor Royale looks well treated but this bridle horse has so far failed to convince. In short he is disappointing and gives the impression he fails to stay. It would be no surprise if he proves me wrong but he cannot be backed.

1.50: Tito Bustillo was enormously impressive at Chepstow and is taken to pass this sterner test. Ireland provide the main dangers. Some Present’s hurdling was not convincing at Punchestown – it will have to have improved in the interim – meaning Loosen My Load is seen as the principal threat.

2.25: French Opera looks a worthy favourite here despite making limited betting appeal. Consigliere’s chance will be improved if the rains come and the race turns into a war of attrition. Versatile as regards ground, a chance is taken with Safari Adventures who is at the right end of the handicap and appears to have every chance of reversing Aintree form with Tramantano.   Today’s all-weather cards look tricky to say the least.

Fanunalter is fancied in the 8.50 at WOLVERHAMPTON. Apparently he broke a blood vessel last time, something that is always a worry. Chris Catlin could be the jockey to follow at Lingfield.

He has definite chances on Pictures (1.05), Highland River (1.35) and Critical Path in the 2.50.

The only one I have failed to mention – Starburst in the 3.25 – could be the one to consider! In truth it is a day to pick through with care.

BUSH TELEGRAPH:

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 12th:

WOLVERHAMPTON RACING TIPS:

4.20: Getcarter looks an interesting proposition even after a two month absence. Although raised to a mark of 80, he was a ready winner last time and has every chance of following up on the assumption he returns fighting fit.

5.50: Despite such being in such unstoppable form, it may just pay to oppose the Godolphin short-price favourite Nafura here. Destiny And Duty is fancied and appears to hold an each-way chance, whilst Anaya – on a tentative form line – has the beating of the favourite. Both represent value and may be worth playing.

BUSH TELEGRAPH:

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 11th:

SOUTHWELL RACING TIPS:

4.00: Imprimis Tagula – weighted to beat Bonnie Prince Blue – who has a definite chance, races off a 2lbs lower mark than when last successful at Southwell. This gives him every chance of lifting this and is seen as the best opportunity of the day.

BUSH TELEGRAPH:

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 10th:

This has all the hallmarks of a quiet day. There are no messages or opinions to pass on at this stage.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

MONDAY NOVEMBER 9th:

WOLVERHAMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

2.35: Ishismart must have a chance in a dreadful event.

4.10: Seven furlong specialist Fiefdom has slipped down to a virtual plater’s mark and on the evidence of his last run can make his presence felt here. He has won from a higher mark when in his prime, but this handicap does not look too taxing and he ought to go close back to his optimum trip.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 8th:

There are two messages today, both from the same stable:

MARKET RASEN HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.20: Hopes are high that Mille Chief, in the same ownership as Walkon, will go some way to emulating the Triumph Hurdle runner-up later in the season. He is expected to begin that journey with a successful appearance today.

HEREFORD HORSE RACING TIPS :

3.35: Ravethebrave is given a good each-way chance against a short-priced favourite on the strength of what is apparently excellent point-to-point form.

WEEKEND RACING TIPS FOR BREEDERS’ CUP 2009

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 7th:

It is interesting from our point of view that Frankie Dettori has deserted the Dewhurst form, forsaking the fifth Buzzword in preference for Pounced. As always, with a clash between juveniles either side of the Atlantic, this is a hard race to solve.

The Americans are always formidable in the sprint events and will be hard to beat here even though there is local talk of this being a sub-standard renewal. California Flag, Cannonball and Delta Storm all have solid local chances. Strike The Deal could run better than many expect. As a juvenile, he performed with credit at this meeting so we know he can travel and recently has returned to his best form, beating the L’abbaye winner Total Gallery at Newbury. It will be tough, but his newly forged alliance with Keiren Fallon seems to have brought about a renaissance in his fortunes.

8.10: From one sprint to another and once again our hope, Fleeting Spirit, faces tough local opposition headed by Zensational. Last year’s runner up to Midnight Lute, Fatal Bullet, is tough and Gayego lays a good record – achieved in America and Dubai – on the line.

8.49: Lookin At Lucky will need to be something of a star to win the Juvenile from his draw.

9.28: Zacinto appeals as one of the value bets of the meeting in the Breeders’ Cup Mile. This will only be his sixth run; so far, he has never been out of the first two and has improved with every outing. I am puzzled why he should be a bigger price than Delegator, a horse he beat at Ascot when both were behind Rip Van Winkle. There was a point when Zacinto came to challenge looking as if he might beat the winner, but in the end strength prevailed as Rip Van Winkle powered on. Zacinto lines up here in preference to a tilt at the Champion Stakes (won by Twice Over in the same ownership), and a big run against Goldikova is envisaged. I am confident he will beat Delegator, a horse that struggles to stay this trip and has had a busy season.

10.12: Last year’s Juvenile winner Midshipman is taken to beat Mastercraftsman and company in the misleadingly titled Dirt Mile – which of course will be held on Pro-Ride. There is no substitute for local experience and Midshipman can complete what could be a very successful meeting for Godolphin.

10.57: This is one race that should go to the raiders. Last year’s winner Conduit has excellent claims but is short enough on his achievements this year. Although there is a possibility that the preliminaries may unnerve Spanish Moon, he seems to have turned a corner this season since his ban from Britain. He will be a tough opponent along with Dar Re Mi, who was only just over a length behind Conduit in the Arc.

11.45: This is surely a race to savour. Rip Van Winkle is not an obvious Breeders’ Cup contender. A strongly built son of Galileo, his future surely lies on turf and, if kept in training, can be expected to win something like the Juddmonte or the Eclipse next year. Scooting round the turns at Santa Anita may not be entirely suitable but clearly he brings strong form to the event. The locals will herald Zenyatta as one of the all time greats if she gains what would be her fourteenth straight success and she will raise the roof. Mine That Bird and Summer Bird do not look up to this task and it could be that Zenyatta is the one to beat in a heart-stopping finale for what is sure to be a great meeting.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SATURDAY NOVEMBER 07th:

Racing does not get much tougher than this! However, hope springs eternal and there may be a few opportunities to be had:

DONCASTER RACING TIPS:

1.00: London Gold was almost certainly flattered by his proximity to sub-standard Horris Hill winner Carnaby Street, but gets his chance to enter the scoresheet in this maiden. He ought to win. It goes without saying that the handicaps are hard so I shall gloss over them with a couple of suggestions. I like the chance of Stormy Weather in the 3.15 and feel that seven furlong specialist Dhaular Dhar has a shout from a mark of 92 in the 3.45.

SANDOWN RACING TIPS:

1.40: Space Telescope looks the part in this on his Flat form.

3.50: There is a strong word for Master Of The Hall here.

WINCANTON RACING TIPS:

2.15: Against a heavily burdened top weight in Celestial Halo, Whiteoak has her chance in this grade and is taken to make the weight allowance count. It is worth bearing in mind however that she does receive a mares’ allowance.   SANTA ANITA: Zacinto and Midshipman remain the two value bets for me on a card that promises to supply plenty of fireworks.

WEEKEND RACING TIPS FOR BREEDERS’ CUP 2009

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 6th:

8.35: Ladies’ Night opens with the Marathon, run this year over an extended trip and surely likely to play to the stamina strengths of St Leger winner Mastery. He holds Father Time on Doncaster form, whilst it is unlikely that Man Of Iron is in this league having by-passed the final Classic. After a hard race when winning only an average Leger, Mastery may not be the good thing he appears at first glance. Local contenders Cloudy’s Night and Nite Light both stay, and have mixed it in tough company. After our successes here last year, we should all remember that this remains a very tough meeting for visitors.

9.08: Lillie Langtry has her work cut out if she is to beat the closely matched pair of Smart Seattle and House Of Grace.

9.45: One of the harder races for those this side of the pond to solve. Negligee and course and distance winner Blind Luck would be my two against the field, but confidence is at a minimum.

10.23: Looks tough – I shall pass.

11.02: Ventura, last year’s winner, will be hard to beat but faces serious opposition in Sara Louise – who chased home speedy Indian Blessing last time and could be the each-way value – and Informed Decision.

11.45: Even in her absence Zenyatta still hovers above the Fillies’ Classic as her Oak Tree form is represented by the tough and consistent Cocoa Beach, Lethal Heat and Life Is Sweet. This latest win by America’s wonder filly was not one of her best however, so such form could be misleading. Rainbow View is certainly not without a chance but Music Note could be the one to consider.

 BUSH TELEGRAPH:

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 6th:

The main action takes place tonight at Santa Anita who offer the first of the two-day meeting that captures the imagination of the racing world. With five of the six races confined to fillies and mares, a cautious approach is advisable on day one but it is great fair all the same. Interestingly, Nicholas Godfrey – responsible for the Pricewise column – seems to have relied solely on the Ladbroke ducks for his nominations.

There is just one suggestion today – Parlesotho in the 1.40 at Fontwell. Said to have schooled well and at her best on this sort of ground, she has her chance to open her account over the bigger obstacles.

BUSH TELEGRAPH:

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 5th:

LINGFIELD RACING TIPS:

1.45: Sahara Kingdom is a confident stable call here. His defeat of Essexbridge last time was boosted with the runner up’s subsequent win at Brighton and Sahara Kingdom looks smart enough to follow up.

On a quiet day, devoid of fireworks, Gallantry in the 2.20 and Ektimaal

2.55 are suggestions at prices to belie current odds. Both race from favourable marks. Gallantry is a seven furlong specialist and Ektimaal, although a four-time winner over seven, is not short of speed and could surprise in a poor event.

BUSH TELEGRAPH:

WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 4th:

NOTTINGHAM RACING TIPS:

3.25: The possibility that Starkat may be a blot in this handicap has not escaped race analysts. She did run with promise last time in what could have amounted to a dress rehearsal over this course and distance when fourth in a maiden behind Black Eagle and Troopingthecolour. Whilst handicap and non-handicap form often fails to travel, this was only this filly’s third run in total and second of the season. It seems reasonable to assume she can improve upon it and is therefore suggested as a small betting proposition in what looks a softish race.

CHEPSTOW RACING TIPS:

2.05: Manyriverstocross has apparently schooled well in preparation for his hurdling debut. Likely to be a short price, this son of Cape Cross may struggle in the ground and a watching brief looks the best course of action.

WARWICK RACING TIPS:

2.30: Opinion seems split here between Straw Bear and Somersby. In the belief that Henrietta Knight would not risk Somersby over fences if he had not pleased at home, I feel he is a much better chasing prospect than Straw Bear and expect him to win.

KEMPTON RACING TIPS:

6.20: There will be no hiding place for Mutafajer should he fail tonight. A strong worker at home, it would appear this drop back to six furlongs should suit. He can win this despite a low draw, which, with only nine runners, Richard Hills ought to be able to negate.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

TUESDAY NOVEMBER 3rd:

KEMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

4.20: Servoca seems in the form of his life judging by his latest win at Doncaster. A change of yard can often kick-start a horse’s enthusiasm and it could be that, a nervous sort, he is better suited to the quieter life of his new stable than he was in the crowded house of the Barry Hills yard. What seems a tough task is offset by the 3lbs claim of his excellent rider alongside an excellent draw. In effect he is only 3lbs higher than when winning at the St Leger meeting with the draw advantage in his favour. A reproduction of his latest run would see him the one to beat, but this is no walk in the park. From a prime draw, Hajoum is an obvious danger despite a weight hike and Fullanby hovers on a winning mark but needs luck from the three box.

EXETER HORSE RACING TIPS:

3.00: Without the benefit of a chat with Philip Hobbs, it has to be assumed Planet Of Sound lines up in tip-top shape for a race that looks tailor made. A strong jumper that was third in the Arkle and then ran a little flat at Aintree, from a mark of 152 against some seasoned campaigners that may have little more to offer than we have so far seen, Planet Of Sound is presented with an opportunity his trainer will have hopefully seized opon.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SUNDAY NOVEMBER 01st

With a dirty day forecast, rain already teeming down, and James Bond on the television, it looks like a quiet day on the racing front. There are a couple of messages for those wishing to brave the elements:

LINGFIELD RACING TIPS:

1.20: Whilst no star – something confirmed by his form – Ebony Bloom returns to action in good fettle after a short break. He ought to play a part in the finish unless there are a couple of lurkers in the field.

HUNTINGDON RACING TIPS:

2.20: Sadler’s Star lines up fit for this novice hurdle and his latest run, when behind subsequent winner Brusilini, looks good enough. Much will depend on the state of the ground – if it turns in to a slop the meeting is probably best left alone.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

WEDNESDAY 30th December:

TAUNTON RACING TIPS

12.40: Asturienne is the first of three possible short-priced winners on the card. Of the three this could be the wobbly selection despite stable confidence.

1.10: Tito Bustillo should have no problems in such company and, after a fine effort last time when defeating The Betchworth Kid, is taken to follow up.

3.55: Owen Glendower should make amends for defeat last time in what appears to be a run-of-the-mill bumper.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

TUESDAY 29th December:

Newbury stages a cracking card today on ground that will be extremely testing after overnight and persistent rain.

12.00: It’s an early start with Dave’s Dream the first to step into the ring. He will need to jump better than he did on his chasing debut to defeat a stronger field, but has always been held in the highest regard.

12.30: Choc-full with promising types, this has the makings of a strong juvenile event. The inclusion of Sang Bleu, Hunterview, Kings Troop and Puzzlemaster threaten to make this a tough race.

1.00: The betting is headed by Big Fella Thanks but in truth this is a race that could be won by any one of its five participants.

1.30: Quantitativeasing looked a natural at Newcastle and although he faces potentially stronger rivals today, should be hard to beat. Look out though for a good run from Smooth Classic who lines up with a lofty home reputation.

2.05: This looks like a tough Challow Hurdle to solve. Manyriverstocross has looked more than useful on two of his three efforts so far, whilst Reve de Sivola has solid form and River D’or could be anything.

2.40: They will be racing on very soft ground – verging on heavy – by now but such conditions should not prevent Big Buck’s from adding the postponed Long Walk Hurdle to his portfolio. Diamond Harry is unlikely to be good enough to beat him.

In all, this is a sporting day rather than a betting one.

Solwit ought to get back on the winning trail at Leopardstown in the 2.00. He has improved physically since last year and was plainly unsuited by the slow pace in the Fighting Fifith. He should reinforce strong Champion Hurdle claims with a win here.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

MONDAY 28th December

Plenty of racing today but betting opportunities look as thin on the ground as the vanishing snow.

It may pay to side with Volador in the 3.20 at Chepstow who has always enjoyed a high reputation. Narrowly beaten on his first attempt over hurdles, his stable is in pretty good form now and we should see the best of him in what looks a competitive novice event.

  BUSH TELEGRAPH

SUNDAY 27th December:

KEMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.00: Brought down two out when travelling like a dream, Mille Chief was robbed on his debut. Said to be the best juvenile in the Alan King camp, he gets his chance to right the wrong here and should atone.

3.45: Know The Law is another bidding to put an unfortunate previous run behind him. Travelling well when unseating, he is expected to set the record straight in what, it has to be said, does look like a handicap that will take some winning. His stable are keen on his chances.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SATURDAY 26th December:

Christmas would not be Christmas without Kempton and today’s meeting does not disappoint.

KEMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

12.45: Bellvano looked somewhat clumsy at times at Newbury and will need to be much better organised today round this sharper track. A step back in trip and better ground may suit the highly-thought of Menorah who appeals for small stakes at the bigger price.

1.55: Tchico Polos is nominated as the best bet of the day despite a strong message for Long Run. The selection has excellent form over shorter, but Paul Nicholls is not a man to step up a horse up to this sort of trip lightly. Tchico Polos finished a highly respectable third to Somersby and Crack Away Jack at Sandown last time after wins at Exeter and Fontwell with decent performers in his wake. If this extra yardage improves him then he will be hard to beat and looks a chaser of immense promise. As for Long Run, he lines up having impressed in France when beating his own age group. Apparently an imposing type, he takes on the older brigade for the first time today on recently revised weight-for-age terms. He may be all they report, but taking a short price about a guess is not advisable. Tchico Polos has the form in the book, looks solid and should be hard to beat.

2.30: Binocular is once again the subject of favourable reports. The pattern with him thus far has been for him to win the trials but not the big races themselves. An excuse is tripped out for Newcastle and this is the sort of race he can win. Nevertheless, he makes only limited appeal – none at the price – and I find it hard to see why Go Native should not get the better of him again. The track will suit Starluck – who barely stays two miles – but he has something to find.

3.05: Kauto Star ought to add another King George to his portfolio but is no betting proposition. Holes can be punched in Deep Purple’s last two wins but, unlike Long Run and Binocular, does line up at a fair price for a relative guess. Backed without the favourite at 6/1, or to win outright at 14/1, he appeals as an overpriced contender. Obviously Kempton provides the highlights but the

2.20 at Leopardstown should be informative. Once heralded as a star in the making, Captain Cee Bee may give Sizing Europe plenty to think about in the Grade 1. Tchico Polos and Deep Purple – each-way or without the favourite are the two nominations on the day.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

TUESDAY 22nd DECEMBER:

Events at Southwell – not certain to take place if one considers the likely state of the nation’s road networks – are put in perspective by yesterday’s blizzard conditions. Hard-hit Hampshire is currently eerily quiet, shrouded in snow whilst all but the main highways are devoid of cars, many of our villagers stranded somewhere between places of work and home. Temperatures seem on the rise so a thaw is likely during the next few hours.

Morning trains have been flagged down by railway workers with lanterns and last night many barriers, at Reading station for example, were lifted allowing free travel to marooned souls, invoking a spirit many thought lost to the dark days of the 1940’s. The Great British character shone in the darkness yesterday despite all that the elements threw our way. Jona Louie is back on the radio with that dirge about stopping the cavalry and even Bob Dylan has made a CD about Santa Claus that sounds something like a song featured on Blood On The Tracks. For those of you long enough in the tooth, your challenge for the day – rather than sabotaging Christmas money at Southwell – is to see if you can identify which song I mean.

On the bright side, we have survived the shortest day. Apparently we will have an extra three seconds of daylight today – use it wisely.  As I write some green is peeking between the whiteness of the snow. Take it easy on the roads; remember they will be littered with abandoned cars and many drivers will be even more clueless than normal when faced with conditions hitherto unknown to them. Turn up the heating, don’t forget to throw a crumb or two to the birds and let us hope this mess will have cleared by Christmas Eve.  For those of you that have stuck with my missives over the past twelve months – and those occasional visitors including ‘incensed from Tunbridge Wells’ – Happy Christmas. Enjoy the break and let us see what sense we can make of Boxing Day…

MONDAY 21st DECEMBER

FFOS LAS HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.35: Zanzibar Boy is one of two expected winners from the powerful Nicky Henderson team on today’s card.

3.15: Gold Award faces what looks a harder task but has always been highly thought of and is reported to have strengthened since last season. He is reckoned to be a step ahead of the handicapper.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SUNDAY 20th DECEMBER

Only Kempton is left to shiver under a clear and cold sky today:

4.15: Falcativ is expected to win this. Now gelded and with Marco Botti, recent homework suggests he can progress beyond this level and his stable are very keen on his chances.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SATURDAY 19th DECEMBER

It looks like a case of slim pickings on this the last Saturday before Christmas. Possibly, with the weather as it is, that is just as well. However, two contenders takes the eye:

HAYDOCK HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.15: Percussionist has a fair bit going for him in this competitive handicap. Languishing at the right end of the handicap and proven on both the ground and over the trip, a run last month should have put him spot on for a crack here. Flat tracks seem to suit his style of running and he looks worthy of a small interest against some exposed rivals.

WOLVERHAMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.20: Richard Fahey sets punters something of a poser in this as he runs the top and bottom weights. Bawaardi looks like being the better fancied but to my mind Bolodenka may have the edge, particularly with the 5lbs allowance provided by his more than useful apprentice rider. I may be chasing pavements here, but it will be interesting to see how the betting shapes.

Bush Telegraph

FRIDAY 18th December

SOUTHWELL HORSE RACING TIPS:

2.05: The cardinal rule for this track is not to back horses without form on Fibresand. That said there are always exceptions and Confuchias seems one of them. Soft ground was essential for him on turf and after signs that he was coming into form at the back-end, it is somewhat surprising to see him plummet to a claimer. On the assumption that the surface will play to his strengths he has to be considered at least a notch above these rivals.

WOLVERHAMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

7.50: Sticking to certain horses as if they were limpets is a bad habit that can embrace punters. The temptation to stick with a horse that looks poised to win can prove costly as excuse after excuse is often produced for failure as said animal continues to slip down the ratings, looking an even better proposition in subsequent races. Such is the case with Gallantry who, racing from 78 today and having encountered trouble in running on the last two occasions, looks to have a big chance in this handicap. In the belief that, although he may not be the horse he was, he retains plenty of ability he is nominated as the possible winner here at the expense of Tourist.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

THURSDAY 17th DECEMBER

EXETER HORSE RACING TIPS:

Probably presents the best opportunities on what looks like a quiet day:

2.20: Saqalyrique is not badly treated with a seven pound penalty to defy, but does have plenty of weight to shoulder on soft bordering on heavy ground. He ought to win.

2.50: Cornas has his chance today. Second to Planet Of Sound in the Haldon Cup and then a good runner-up at Ascot, he ought to be too good for Pasco.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

WEDNESDAY 16th DECEMBER

NEWBURY HORSE RACING TIPS:

Assuming there are no problems (there should not be – some frost but already clearing), this could easily turn into the Nicky Henderson show. Seven Barrows field a strong team, most of whom will be short. Oscar Whisky could be vulnerable at cramped odds – he is not very big and will find this a different test from the bumpers so far contested. That said, nominating what will beat him is not easy..

The 12.50 looks tricky. Fistral Beach lines up with the best form but his form figures are off-putting. Quinz jumps well enough but gave the impression he may not have stayed last time and now faces a hike in trip. With War Footing and Parpaillot in the field this is probably a race to leave alone.

 LINGFIELD HORSE RACING TIPS:

12.30: Elation looks like a short-priced winner for the Mark Johnston team.

1.00: There is a message here for Brave Gurkha, which I pass on but have difficulty in getting to grips with.

KEMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

8.20: Surely the best prospect on the day is globetrotting Dohasa who should be too good for this opposition. Form with the likes of J J The Jet Plane and Duff put him at the top of the pecking order in this contest, making him a solid proposition. Sir Gerry has the ability, but it is some time since we have seen it.

Bush Telegraph

TUESDAY DECEMBER 15th:

FOLKESTONE HORSE RACING TIP:

3.30: Volador has a reputation that precedes him and should be good enough to snap this up on his way to loftier heights.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

MONDAY DECEMBER 14th:

PLUMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

2.05: In what amounts to a two-horse race, on paper at least, Abbevillian appears to have better form than main rival Aldertune and is taken to successfully concede his penalty.

WOLVERHAMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

Two poor handicaps end the card where cases can be made for Mount Usher (back to his right trip and a fast finisher last time) in the 5.20, and The Craiq who represents the same form line and is a course and distance winner in the 5.50.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

SUNDAY DECEMEBER 13th:

It’s been a big day for the French at Sha Tin, where the three-year-old filly Darakana won the Hong Kong Vase by a short head from Spanish Moon and Vision D’etat took the Cup. No such action here and with run-of-the-mill cards from Hereford and Kempton, nothing is recommended.

  BUSH TELEGRAPH

SATURDAY DECEMBER 12th:

CHELTENHAM HORSE RACING TIPS:

12.10: Ultimate won with a great deal of authority at Huntingdon and looks poised to follow up in what could be better company. The fact that Ruby Walsh has been lured into taking an outside ride is seen as a major hint.

12.45: Inchidaly Rock will not be easy to beat here, but Zemsky will be better suited to this trip and a potentially faster pace than he encountered last time at Ascot when out speeded close home over an extended two-and-a-half. He is likely to provide a serious challenge.

2.25: This is tough to say the least. My angle is to oppose Poquelin, Chapoturgeon and Atouchbetweenacara. I doubt Razor Royale’s ability to record back-to-back wins, so am left with Tamarinbleu (plenty of weight but racing over the right trip), Sky’s The Limit (may be better fresh) and the dark horse – Skippers Brig who faces a tough test but could be well treated. Celestial Halo and Zaynar should ring down the curtain in their respective events but cannot be backed at the prices, although Celestial Halo’s odds may look generous after the race.

DONCASTER HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.00: Cesare looks an unlikely recruit to hurdling.

1.35: Cockney Trucker will need to have learned plenty since his fencing debut at Ascot where he behaved like a bull in a china shop.

2.45: Those in the know report that My Petra is well in here.

LINGFIELD HORSE RACING TIPS:

2.00: Burton Port looks something of a natural and is taken to confirm Bangor placings with Massasoit even on worse terms.

SOUTHWELL HORSE RACING TIPS:

1.10: Any move for Naxox in the market should be heeded. With form on soft in France and a winner over hurdles, it is unlikely this surface will prove to be a stumbling block. His second in a competitive claimer at Wolverhampton last time puts him in here with a definite chance.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

FRIDAY DECEMBER 11th:

CHELTENHAM HORSE RACING TIPS:

3.00: Earth Planet looks a stand out bet in this handicap today after an excellent second to subsequent Newbury winner Lie Forrit at this track last month. A progressive and relatively lightly-raced seven-year-old that runs from the same mark today, he will surely be hard to beat. He seems to have most of the usual suspects covered, stays well, should be capable of improvement on his seasonal run and would be accorded a higher mark if the handicapper had the luxury of reassessing him. This looks an ideal target and, win lose or draw, a no-brainer as far as a selection is concerned. He is likely to be a warm betting order. Of the remainder, only the improving Wolf Moon is seen as a possible danger.

The rest of the card is interesting but that does not pay the mortgage. As a speculative selection in the 1.50, According To Pete – racing off the same mark as when fancied in the Paddy Power and not disgraced – may find this extra trip more to his liking. He was a staying-on fifth that day so three miles looks ideal. He should give a good account.

3.35: Ghizao looked a little bit special when winning a bumper at this course last time and faces the much vaunted Lidar once again. There is the small matter of eight flights to negotiate but these two should dominate the closing contest. Lidar has always been seen as a hurdling type by his stable and may close the gap, although it is hard to see him turning it round. However, hurdles have been known to bring about changes and, with the Alan King yard seemingly in much better form now, he may represent a bigger danger than the form book suggests. This looks like a race to sit out – certainly at this stage of the day.

DONCASTER HORSE RACING TIPS:

There is just one message on the day as I write and that is for Hong Kong Harry in the 11.50. Typically, after a cracking day by the King yard yesterday, I feel a message today is the equivalent of standing on the quay watching the ship you booked a passage on as it sails out of harbour. Obviously the horse has a chance, but possibly interest should be kept to a minimum in what looks a competitive heat.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

THURSDAY DECEMEBER 10th:

TAUNTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

2.20: With a slight cloud hanging over the Alan King horses it could be worth rowing in with the classy Tito Bustillo against The Betchworth Kid. Receiving weight, Tito Bustillo looks to have a real chance in any event. A sharper round of hurdling would have seen him finish third at Cheltenham last time to a couple of very useful Irish contenders in Loosen My Load and a strongly fancied Some Present. This flatter track should help and he looks likely to test Plumpton winner The Betchworth Kid to the limit.

There is plenty of supporting racing but it is hard to become enthusiastic from a betting point of view. Obviously the Peterborough Chase is the main event on the Huntingdon card but it is not an easy contest. Despite being a top class performer on his day, Tidal Bay is not a totally convincing animal. The trip should be ideal for Deep Purple, who may not have truly stayed last time although he won, but he will not have things his own way against a potentially stronger field. This looks like a race to sit out unless you hold a strong opinion.

Tito Bustillo is seen as the sole bet of the day.

BUSH TELEGRAPH

WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 9th:

KEMPTON HORSE RACING TIPS:

6.50: Ipswich Lad will be suited by this step up in trip, and being by Halling is the sort to improve with time. Despite a prolonged absence, he will strip for this and is expected to collect.

7.00: Green Wadi is a more tentative call in this handicap but this is his race for the taking. Thought of as a one time Classic hope when with Mick Channon, he never realised such aspirations but is with the right outfit to pull off a punt. Tonight looks as if it could be the night.

8.20: Major Lawrence has been frustrating so far but it is probably premature to write him off. His stable was out of salts when he last ran and he is given the benefit of the doubt against tonight’s modest opposition.

Ipswich Lad is nominated as the best of the day

BUSH TELEGRAPH will not be beating for a week due to a short break. It will return on Tuesday December 8th.

Fun Quiz

“Winning money … week after week …
it’s the most exciting way I’ve ever made a living!”

Dear John

Congratulate yourself John!… why? … because clearly you’re someone who takes action. You, like me, enjoy having the opportunity to make money … now you have an opportunity to win £1,000’s … just like I did years ago … before the bookmakers closed my accounts and started refusing my bets because I was winning too much!

Welcome aboard! I hope we enjoy a long and profitable and enjoyable association. You can be sure I will be working my butt off to share winners with you!

Racing can be Fun and Profitable!

Racing is the best “business” I’ve ever known. The most fun, profitable and stimulating “work” you could ever enjoy. It can give you tons of free time as well as tons of money. It can give you immense satisfaction so you go to “work” with a smile on your face full of excitement “will it be a BIG one today!!?” … the question I wake up to every day.

Why is betting on horses such a
“High Potential” Business?

I don’t know any other business where one minute you can be scratching around worrying about paying your bills and then BAM! You have a great bet on a 10/1 winner and all of a sudden you’ve got so much cash in your wallet you want to throw a party, book a holiday, buy a new car or just pay off all your credit card bills! It’s an amazing feeling!

It’s happened to me on more than one occasion … it stuns and amazes my friends! One minute they’re feeling sorry for me and just a tiny bit “superior” because of their nice steady job and regular (but barely-enough-to-survive) income! The next minute they’re as jealous as hell!

The Best Business I’ve known for over 30 years!

Before I started betting horses I’d tried making money in a variety of businesses. None came close to racing! They can’t hold a candle to it! Get this business right and you will never “work” again!

Here’s the businesses I tried before I discovered this Gold Mine! … My first business in the 70’s sold telephone answering machines from America years before they were available in the UK (light years before mobile phones!) Then I branched out and set up a computer sales company, a software business, a computer maintenance operation, two different magazine, a discount card club and a marketing company. All were a lot of hard work but still great fun … but none compared in any way to betting for a living!

Like to know the difference between these businesses and racing? … in those businesses I was always struggling with cash flow! Meeting payroll every month was a big worry! Paying bills was a disaster! … not because we weren’t successful … it was because we were rapidly expanding!

At one stage we were expanding so fast I was hiring a couple of engineers and a salesman every month! … but it was killing my cash flow because it meant I had to buy three more new cars every month!! … yes they were on “hire-purchase” or leases but it was still hard to find the deposits!

Do banks love businesses that expand like the clappers? Well if you were like me and needed to borrow money to finance the expansion? Forget it! I had to to sell my house to fund the last business. I was fed up of working 12 hours a day making everyone else money and going into debt myself! (I didn’t draw a salary from my marketing company for over a year and re-mortgaged my house to pay wages!) … so I packed it all in to make money betting instead!

How I got started …

Did things improve the day I started betting horses?

It got worse! I lost £35,000 in 6 months … not bad when you’d only started with £15,000! … my friends thought I was nuts and I was wondering if they might be right?

But like anything you do over and over again you get better. I was still losing … but after a while I lost less! Finally after 6 months I started winning!!! 9 months later I’d won all my losses back and was back up to “Zero”! I felt great! From then on it’s well known history. I won and won and kicked the greedy bookmakers into touch!

When I won too much they banned me …

One by one they closed my accounts and banned me …

“We hate having to pay you out week after week, after week, after week … your final cheque in the sum of £21,153,75 duly enclosed” -City Index.

“Your account was closed with us because you had become a luxury we could not afford” – Bob Menzies

One firm didn’t ban me but would only let me have a tiny bet to find out what I was doing … then one day they refused me 50P yes 50 penceon a horse at a price!! I was furious and never had a proper bet with them again (until I recently discovered an ingenious way of outwitting their internet division!) You may know that firm … Ladbrokes!! Maybe they couldn’t afford the risk, ha ha! After all they only own 2,000 betting shops!! Bookies are gutless!

Now it’s your turn to win!

First let me make it quite clear there are no guarantees. I imagine when you win it’ll seem so easy. But equally there will be (many) times when you think B***** H***! I’m sure you, like me, like to win. But I’m notscared of losing. Losing is part of winning in racing. It would be dead easy if they all won. But 30-40% winners can provide a fantastic lifestyle.

This new business could mean a new way of life for you … open up possibilities of winning more money than you could ever earn slogging away long hard hours at unrewarding work … but it’s not always easy … the best things in life never are, wouldn’t you agree?

… and you can count on one thing … when you find something that could make a difference … something that could be a bit special … a lot of people will “crib” about it … they’ll never agree with you … after all in the words of one philosopher …” if you do what everyone else does … you’ll get what everyone else has … usually not a lot!”

You’re a Pioneer!

To win you have to dare to be different!

Let me ask you a question? … How do you make a lot of money in say the stock market? The real question is of course “How do you buy a share that will go up in value?”

Is it by waiting to see what everyone is buying? … waiting and waiting until everyone you speak to agrees it’s a good buy … because they’ve already bought at a lower price? … then buying when you’re the last one in?

NO WAY! To make real money you need to be among the first in! By the time everyone else thinks it’s a good idea … the first one’s in are already taking their profits and selling!

Just the same for this opportunity. Betting on horses has become “respectable”! It’s the new “Stock market”! What a great time to be in it! The Government “donated” £492,000,000 a year to horse racing investors by abolishing betting tax. A flood of smart people eager to make money from this new opportunity have flocked into racing and are winning £1,000’s! And now you too can get your share of this great opportunity.

You’re a Winner!

You’re a winner already! Why? … because you took action. Taking action is what differentiates winners from losers. Most people need to wait for others approval before they can take action themselves. You’ve shown you’ve got what it takes. Obviously taking action by itself doesn’t guarantee success. But you can’t succeed without taking action first.

You took action and joined me. I appreciate that. It takes guts to do something different … and something as outrageous as winning tax free money betting on horses! Most people don’t believe it can be done because they’ve never seen anyone do it!

Maybe you’ve never invested on horses before. Maybe you have, but didn’t win as much as you’d have liked. Maybe you’re already a “pro”. Whatever your circumstances I guess you joined me because I’ve proved I can win a lot of money from the bookmakers … and you’d like to win too … how? … by investing on racehorses our contacts tell us can win.

How Much Can I Win?

How much can you win? … the sky’s the limit! You can win fortunes … in fact I won so much the cowardly bookmakers closed my accounts and refused to take my bets anymore. Now I don’t want to pretend it’s easy. Sometimes it is … when the horses are winning! But they don’t win all the time. It’s a business of ups and downs.

Let me share some of my own experiences with you … when I started investing on horses I expected to win a fortune right away. Luckily it wasn’t that easy. “Luckily?” I hear you ask in amazement “Surely it’s better to win straight away?” Well in one way of course you’re right! It’s great winning! … but look at it this way. If you win straight away it seems too easy. So you don’t prepare for the hard times. But if you lose initially … well you already know it can be tough so you’re better prepared when things don’t go as well as you expect.

My Learning Curve was Expensive!
Now You can benefit from it …

I lost for 6 straight months! I know that seems unbelievable. So did my friends! They used to say “Bob, you’re crazy. When are you going to give it up?”

Luckily I don’t give up easily … and all the time I was learning. I was getting better and better at judging the horses, the markets and the size of my bets. I did tons of research … and I kept making new contacts with “spies” … shrewd horseracing folk who could supply me with valuable information.

After 6 months I’d lost £35,000! Impressive when you only start with £15,000! But we were in the middle of the last property boom and I had no dependents so I’d re-mortgaged my house for £50,000 (I do NOT recommend you do this!)

In Three Months I won it all back!
£35,000.00!

At the end of 6 months I started winning. In 3 short months I’d won back the £35,000 so was now “level”

And then I started winning … and boy did I win! I took £1,000’s and £1,000’s off the bookies for connections and myself. I specialised as the “guy who could get the money on” and racing professionals flocked to my door.

In the next year I took over £400,000 off the bookies on behalf of connections and myself! The bookies were not happy. One by one they closed the door in my face, closed my accounts and refused my bets.

£400,000.00 in a year!
£8,000.00 a week!

One word of warning! In the year I won £400,000 … I had two losing months! That’s right TWO losing months! Imagine if you’d looked over my shoulder with the intention of making money by copying my bets during one of those months … you’d have thought “No way!” … and you’d have missed out on the chance to win £1,000 a day!

I share this with you because there’ll be times when it seems like we couldn’t pick a winner using tomorrow’s newspaper! There’s been plenty of times I felt like giving racing up altogether!

Bet a 25/1 Winner and
you’ll celebrate for a week!

Of course there’ll be other times when we have so many winners … or winners at such fantastic prices … you’ll wonder why you never did this before. As an example just imagine how you’d have felt if you’d bet one of the horses we did … Grey Kingdom in the Ayr Silver Cup … it won at 25/1! That’s £1,000 for every £40 invested!

One client wrote … “I had £100 each way and won £3,225.00!” another said “When Grey Kingdom went past the line first I was shouting so much the neighbours came round to see what all the noise was about. Thanks Bob”

You have to take the rough with the smooth. I know you can do this because you wouldn’t have joined me unless you were an optimist. But it’s still good to be prepared.

How many winning opportunities each month?

You’ll have around 8-12 opportunities to win each month. You’ll only participate when it suits you. I’ll text, write or email you at times to remind you when we have a suitable opportunity if you haven’t called for a while, or sometimes remind you on the phone. These advices will be for horses strongly fancied to win and carrying professional money.
How do I place my bets?

The best way to stay “under the radar” is to nip down to your local betting shop and place your bets in cash … whatever you like for yourself, and £50 for connections … and then … collect any winnings whenever we have a successful investment!

There’s something magical about collecting a wad of cash and stuffing it in your wallet so it nearly bursts! I love it! It’s a great feeling and always brings a smile to my face.

FREE Bets!
Get yourself a few £100’s FREE Now!

Having said the above there is a more convenient way to place bets now and that’s by the internet. But you have to be careful and only deal with bookmakers you’ve checked out and can trust.

To save you time I’ve checked out a number of these. Over the years I’ve had a lot of experience with bookmakers and I’ve had accounts with these and they’ve paid me when I won! I’ve also put friends into them who’ve had accounts and got paid too so I know they’re reliable.

What more several of them are offering very generous FREE bets when you open an account. I’ve listed the best of them on my website below.

Be quick if you do want to pick up some free money! Some of these offers won’t last long because it’s been costing the bookies a lot of money when in-the-know entrepreneurial types like yourself have used my techniques to make it Win-Win for yourself!

… So if you want to get started right away you could go to my website now

www.HorseRacingPro.co.uk

Click on the “FREE Bets” tab on the website and grab yourself one or two of the offers (I’d start with the £200.00 from “Bet365”, £150.00 from Stan James and £50.00 from Betfred) … and to help you win money risk free I’ve written a report entitled

“How to Cash in on Free Bets from online bookies”

There’s a section in it where I explain how you could win £1,000 risk free using the bookies money! … or guarantee yourself a profit whether the horse wins or loses!!

I used to retail this for £50 but if you’d like a free copy (yes FREE, Complimentary, Gratis!) just let my office know and we’ll email or post you a copy … but the first step is to open those accounts so you lock in the free offer now! You don’t need any money to open the accounts by the way. Leave that till later if you want.

How do I reward connections for winners?

Here’s how my clients reward connections … they send the odds to a £50 bet for each advice … but only if it wins!!! Just send me the winnings from a £50 bet each time you get a winner … and of course you’ll be enjoying your own winning bet so you’ll be winning too. And as the bookie pays the winnings, winners don’t cost you a penny!!
As an example suppose the horse wins at 3/1. £50 at 3/1 wins £150 so you just send me the £150 winnings … NB!! Keep your stake for next time! … and if you’d invested say £200 for yourself … you’d win £600 too!
Quality Information!
… so we win together

I know how good this information is. I could have asked you to send £50, £100 or more in advance for each advice, win or lose. Some tipsters ask for £1,000! … I don’t! … I want to gamble on the win with you! … and so do our connections! … that’s why I prefer you place this £50 on the horse together with your own bet… why? … the reason’s simple! …

First I know a good proportion of these horses will win! That’s why I’m advising them to you in the first place! Secondly I cannot get big bets on myself anymore. Let me tell you about another horse we bet as an example.
The owner had waited more than 6 months for it to win. So he’d spent over £6,000 on training (£1,000 a month to keep a racehorse). He’d agreed to tell me when the horse was ready to win in exchange for me placing a free bet of £1,000 on it for him as a contribution towards his costs.
Nowadays I can’t get that size bet on so I shared it with 20 clients who each placed £50. They were just as much “in the know” for their £50 as the owner was who’d spent £6,000. Now that’s good value isn’t it!?
It’s hard for me to get a bet of more than £200 or £300 on without causing alarm bells to ring. So I share this information with a small group of people, say 20 for example, and they each put £50 on. That covers the “present” for the connections and I can still win with my own bet.
Most importantly we all win together. When you win, I win. I don’t believe in charging for losing information without any risk like so many other racing advisory services do (is that why they have to advertise every day?). That’s why I only expect you to send me money when we win! That way you can be confident I will be only give you horses I think will win. But they won’t all win and I wouldn’t want you to get the wrong impression.
These horses are strongly fancied and are all expected to win by their connections. But experience shows they only win about half the time at best. So take a long term view and don’t put all your money on one horse! I reckon our long term strike rate is around 30-40%. So bet accordingly … and never bet money you can’t afford to lose! These are good bets but not certainties! A sensible policy might be to restrict your bets to 10% of your available betting bank at any one time.
Winners are “FREE”!

When the horse wins the bookie pays your winnings and returns your stake. So you get your own stake back as well as the £50 you invested for connections. So the winner hasn’t cost you a penny piece. It’s the bookie who’s paid everyone out!

You’re in profit from your winnings and connections have recouped some expenses from the £50 you placed for them in exchange for the inside information.

How do I send the winnings?

Simply send cash, cheque or postal order or make a Bank Transfer. Best to send the same day if you can. So we can settle with connections quickly … they often let slip details about the next juicy horse when we’re delivering their winnings so I like to send it to them ASAP!

Do I use a betting shop,
telephone or internet account?

Up to you. Use betting shops if you love the feeling of winning in cash and want to stay “anonymous” or under the radar. Internet or telephone betting is more convenient and if you’re using a free bet offer from a reputable internet bookmaker then it’s a lot more profitable too!

The reason why using betting shops keeps you under the radar and protects the odds for longer is if you use a telephone or internet account you are plugged directly into the “Trading Room” – the bookmaker’s nerve centre!
Here they can see immediately if a horse is being bet heavily because they’ll be getting phone calls for the same horse from different parts of the country. I have known them put you on hold and wait a minute or two while they send money to the track to reduce the odds before offering you the smaller price! … very annoying!

Celebrate Your Wins!

Finally I’d just like to say “Welcome” once again. This business is the best in the world when you’re betting winners!

The money flows in effortlessly! On the other hand it’s not much fun when you have the inevitable losers. So make sure you celebrate when you have a good win, it helps carry you through any bad spells!

I hope this letter has explained any queries you might have had … I’ve tried to cover all the points of the basis of our relationship.

Win or lose you can rest assured I’ll be doing my best to supply you with sound Professional Information from our contacts. Like you I’m sure, I look forward to a long and mutually profitable association.

Warm regards

But we were in the middle of the last property boom and I had no dependents so I’d re-mortgaged my house for £50,000 (I do NOTrecommend you do this!)

“Your account was closed with us because you had become a luxury we could not afford” – Bob Menzies

One firm didn’t ban me but would only let me have a tiny bet to find out what I was doing … then one day they refused me 50P yes 50 pence! on a horse at a price!!

… and you can count on one thing … when you find something that could make a difference … something that could be a bit special … a lot of people will “crib” about it … they’ll never agree with you … after all in the words of one philosopher …”if you do what everyone else does … you’ll get what everyone else has … usually not a lot!”

Bob Rothman

it’s the most exciting way I’ve ever made a living!”

We hate having to pay you out week after week, after week, after week … your final cheque in the sum of £21,153,75 duly enclosed” -City Index.

But we were in the middle of the last property boom and I had no dependents so I’d re-mortgaged my house for £50,000 (I do NOTrecommend you do this!)

BETTING MASTERCLASS QUIZ

OKAY, SO IT HAS BEEN A WEEK. HOW DID YOU DO? MORE TO THE POINT, HOW DID I DO? NOW IS THE TIME TO FIND OUT… HERE WITH THE ANSWERS, SOME OF WHICH MAY BE CONTENTIOUS; IF YOU DISAGREE, YOU CAN ALWAYS GET IN TOUCH…

CATEGORY 1:What is the trip of the Dante?

A: One Mile. B: One mile-and-a-half. C: One mile two-and-a-half furlongs.

C: The Dante is run over one mile-two-and-a-half furlongs.

Which sounds more probable:

A: A horse can cover five furlongs in A: Sixty seconds. B: One minute and twenty seconds. C: Fifty seconds.

A: Unless a horse is contesting a seller at Catterick that is run in a bog, in which case a time of one minute and twenty seconds is plausible; or the five furlong start was incorrectly positioned a furlong short, so only running only half-a-mile for which fifty seconds would be about right.

A horse should clock around a minute to cover five furlongs. It would be slightly less at Epsom in a tailwind.

A horse that leads with his off-fore is more likely to be effective on:

A: A left-handed track. B: A right-handed track. C: In a swimming pool.

B: A horse that leads with his off-fore is effectively favouring his right leg, so a right-handed course would be to his advantage, particularly if negotiating a tight track like Kempton.

Which race places the greatest emphasis on stamina?

A: A three-mile chase. B: A three-mile hurdle. C: The Queen Alexandria Stakes.

C: The Queen Alexandria Stakes is my answer. Stripping away the possibility of falsely run races, and for the purposes of this exercise, assume the three events in question are run at an even pace. In which case, for any horse to last 2m 6f on the Flat, in an event run at a far faster gallop than the other two mentioned, stamina reserves are tested to the limit. Surprisingly, a hurdle race places more emphasis on stamina than a chase, which allows its participants to lob round at a snail’s pace whilst superior jumping wins the day. A novice hurdle is often a mere five-furlong sprint, but a handicap hurdle, or the sort staged at Cheltenham, requires its participants to race at a keen clip throughout.

Three pounds in weight is the equivalent over five furlongs to:

A: One length. B: Three lengths. C: One third of a length.

A: Three pounds is equivalent to one length over five furlongs. After that we hit something of a grey area. It is widely acknowledged that over six furlongs 2lbs equals a length. In my opinion, after that it is a pound a length irrespective of distance, but that is not written in stone.

How far is the Cheltenham Gold Cup?

A: Three miles. B: Three-and-a-half miles. C: Three miles two-and-half-furlongs.

C: The Cheltenham Gold Cup is run over three miles-two-and-a-half-furlongs. If you got this question and the Dante one wrong, perhaps you should stop now!

How many fences do they jump in the Grand National?

A: Thirty. B: Forty. C: Twenty-seven.

B: They jump forty fences in the Grand National; although it could be argued the smart ones find a way to either run out, pull up or unseat well before the final scheduled fence.

What is the ideal trip on the Flat for a horse being groomed for a run in a novice hurdle?

A: One Mile. B: Two miles. C: One mile-and-a-half.

A: One mile to a mile-and-a-quarter, even seven furlongs, is considered the ideal distance for a horse racing in a novice hurdle. As previously stated, if said horse can flip over eight flights, most novice events are merely a five-furlong sprint after what has been little more than a hack round. Dour stayers often lack the turn of foot from the last hurdle to finish to effect. For that reason, winners of bumpers are invariably found wanting when running over the minimum distance over timber.

In a slowly run race, what is the ideal position for a runner to adopt?

A: Near the front. B: Out the back. C: In the horsebox on the way home.

A: Near the front, this is common sense when you consider it. If the pace is slow, when it does quicken it is much harder for those that have given the leaders a soft lead to peg them back. Similarly, when the pace is keen, it often pays to let the leaders tear off and wait out the back. It is a pity such elementary facts are lost on some of our jockeys at times!

Which animal can run the fastest?

A: Racehorse. B: Cheetah. C: The animal the cheetah is chasing.

B: The cheetah is the fastest animal in the world, recording speeds in excess of sixty miles an hour. However, this can only be sustained for a relatively short burst. A cheetah has been clocked travelling at 64 miles per hour over a furlong. It is not known how he would fare up the Newmarket hill in the last furlong of the July Cup. But over a furlong, not only could a cheetah overtake a racehorse but also eat it for breakfast, along with anything else it is able to get a clean run at.

CATEGORY 2:

In France how are horses drawn?

A: From left to right. B: From right to left. C: The stewards decide on the morning of the race dependent on how many British horses are taking part.

B: In France horse are loaded in the stalls from right to left, so at right-handed Longchamp, 1 is on the rail and 15 on the outside, at least on the round course. However, being France, an exception is made in the Abbaye where, being on a straight course, they load from left to right. Confusing? Of course, the French would not have it any other way!

In Ireland which is the most testing ground?

A: Heavy. B: Yielding. C: Soft.

A: Heavy to be sure!

Where is soft ground most likely to be encountered?

A: Punchestown. B: Chepstow. C: Henley.

C: Henley, where for the Regatta the going is always soft. Bit of a trick question this.

A horse with a high knee action is most likely to prefer?

A: Soft ground. B: Fast ground. C: An arena in a circus.

A: A horse with a high knee action is invariably going to be suited by soft ground. Although, if those legs are lifted too high it could find itself spending so much time in the air that it might end up in a circus.

The Polytrack surface most resembles

A: Soft turf ground. B: Dirt. C: Good to fast turf ground.

C: Polytrack is just about the perfect surface for a racehorse yet we still hear commentators posing the question: will so-and-so act on this surface? Any horse that is unable to function on Polytrack is simply not a racehorse.

The weight-for age-scale allows three-year-olds in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

A: 10lbs. B: One stone. C: 12lbs.

C: Three-year-olds receive 12lbs from their seniors in the King George. It used to be a stone but it was felt that this gave an unfair advantage to the younger generation. So the scale, that had withstood a century or two, was changed in favour of the older horses to the tune of 2lbs.

In an all-age Group 1 race, what horse carries top weight?

A: One of four-years or more. B: None as they all carry the same. C: There is no such thing as a horse carrying top weight in a Group 1.

C: This is a moot point, but although there is a variance in weights according to age and sex, there is technically no such thing as a horse carrying top weight in a Group 1. The weight-for-age scale is designed to ensure that all horses have the same chance in a Group 1 and as no penalties apply, all horses effectively carry the same weight.

Which of the all-weather tracks has built their artificial track on the outside of the turf course?

A: Lingfield. B: Southwell. C: Kempton.

B: Southwell is the only artificial track laid outside the turf equivalent. The reason being that as they used a relatively cheap material – sand – they could afford it.

At Ascot on the straight course, where is it best to be drawn?

A: Stands’ side. B: Far Side. C: No one knows.

C: No one does know where you want to be drawn on the straight course at Ascot until it is too late and the results are in. The re-laid turf was placed on top of sand, meaning it drains quickly as sand is porous. So watering is never even and although rainfall is, the rate at which the water seeps away varies. The Ascot authorities deny this but results speak for themselves. It has become a tricky track to bet on, which is nothing short of a scandal.

At the Cheltenham Festival what attribute is most needed to give a horse a chance of winning?

A: The ability to jump and race at speed from flag fall. B: To cope with a big occasion without sweating up. C: Being ridden by Tony McCoy or Ruby Walsh.

A: Cheltenham is something of a law unto itself, particularly at the Festival. Races are run at breakneck speed so it is essential for a horse to find a rhythm from the outset and sustain it. So often, chasers and hurdlers that have been impressive on park courses are all at sea when faced with the frenetic pace of a race at the Festival and can be nominated as losers some way out. It is a factor often overlooked.

What is most likely to prevent a horse from winning?

A: Being drawn twelve of twelve at Chester. B: Being drawn one of twelve at Beverley in a race over five furlongs. C: Being Lesley Graham’s charity bet on the Morning Line.

C: Lesley Graham has succeeded the infamous Lord Oaksey as one of the worst tipsters in the world. On the assumption that a bad draw at both Beverley and Chester will result in any sensible punter overlooking a possible selection, and ultimately in a vet’s certificate resulting in a horse’s withdrawal, the logical answer has to be Lesley as she could stop a train.

CATEGORY 3:What is the most important component in finding a winning opportunity for a horse?

A: Racing on the right ground. B: Making sure it is running over the best trip. C: Employing the services of a top jockey.

B: A horse will always give his best performance when racing over the right trip. Good horses, or even indifferent ones, can perform on unsuitable ground, and of course the services of a good jockey is a bonus. But run a horse over the wrong trip and it is extremely unlikely to perform to its best.

What day of the week is the hardest to find winners?

A: Saturday. B: Sunday. C: Monday.

A: Littered with televised handicaps, Saturday is by far the hardest day of the week to find winners. In a business dominated by bookmakers it also happens to be the biggest betting day of the week, but that is surely no more than coincidence!

If you place a £100 each-way on a horse that is placed at 10/1 at one-fifth the odds, what overall price are you paid out at?

A: 2/1. B: Evens. C: 1/2.

C: If the horse is only placed then you have forfeited your winning stake. Therefore, your outlay is two hundred pounds and your return £300, making your net return equivalent to 1/2.

As a fraction, what price does 85/40 also represent?

A: 9/4. B: 18/8. C: 17/8.

C: 85/40 is only the next extension to 15/8. For some reason some drunken bookmaker decided to call this top-heavy fraction 85/40 and it stuck. Rarely used these days, but 17/8 is a much friendlier and easily understood fraction to deal with.

Which is the biggest price?

A: 5/6. B:10/11. C: 4/5.

B: To a £1 stake 5/6 returns £1.83, 10/11 – £ 1.91 and 4/5 £1.80. Of course if you reverse the prices so that they are odds against then you also reverse the answer.

In America winning dividends are paid to a stake of

A: One dollar. B: Five dollars. C: Two dollars.

C: In America, the Tote returns its dividend to a $2 stake.

If you are in the box seat you are:

A: In second place. B: In the lead. C: Sitting on Jim McGrath’s knee?

A: The box seat was something unheard of until Aussie Jim McGrath introduced us to it on his arrival as commentator at our racecourses. I assume is refers to the seat in one of those old-fashioned Leyland buses where it is possible to sit on the humpy part of the gearbox just behind the driver.

If you back a horse that dead-heats you receive

A: Half the odds. B: Your money is returned. C: Odds to half your stake?

C: A dead-heat means you receive odds to half your stake, not half the odds. There is a difference! Half of 4/1 is 2/1. Half your stake on a horse that dead-heats means you are being paid out at 6/4.

When was the last time you backed a winner?

A: Yesterday. B: Can’t remember. C: So that’s what it is all about!

As for the last question, I fear my answer is B, but I trust yours is more encouraging.

Betting and Gambling  Discussions

This is the area of the website for discussions on various aspects of betting, gambling and picking winners.

These articles have been submitted by friends and colleagues I’ve worked with in Racing over the last 20 years.

Racing and successful gambling is a matter of opinion. You think you are right and the bookmaker wrong  – so you pay to find out, putting your money where your mouth is.  If you’re successful then over a period of time you will make money.

But being a successful Professional Punter does not mean you will be right all the time. Far from it – in fact you’ll be lucky to be right half the time. But you can win plenty of money being right only 30% of the time.  Check out our results if you need any convincing.

By the same token, that you won’t  be right all the time, you will also miss things from time to time. That’s why I believe it makes good sense to build a team. A team whose opinions are valued. You may not agree with their opinions on any one subject, but over a period of time they will hopefully alert you to sufficient profitable betting opportunities (or steer you away from losing ones!) to make their input invaluable.

The opinions expressed here are from a  variety of sources and Professionals. I do not necessarily agree with all of the views. But I do value their input so digest their comments and see if anything helps you with your own betting. I’ve found different viewpoints helpful. There are many different angles and hopefull you will find these helpful in your Professional Betting Career.

If you have articles or information you might like to share please contact me using the contact tab.

Good luck

SPY TURNS AGONY AUNT

And answers your seasonal Questions

Dear Smart Ass:

I have an ante-post betting slip for Cue Card in Boxing Day’s King George VI Chase. Having read your recent article concerning the importance of a betting edge, Playing The Percentages, I was perturbed by your comments regarding the horse’s apparent preference for left-handed tracks and your statement that he has never won right-handed. Consequently I re-checked Cue Card’s racing record only to discover he won at Exeter in November of last year. According to official descriptions of the track, it is right-handed.

Spy says: Given there are only two choices (left or right), then technically it is; but were there such a description as Isosceles-triangular-shaped, I suggest that would suit better. However, you are correct in your assessment that Exeter shows a right-handed bias. Good luck with the bet. (Phew… think I got away with that one!)

Dear Mr Spleen:

I am a married lady of many years, now in my early fifties. A few years ago, during lovemaking sessions with my husband, to help the process along I used to fantasise that it was David Beckham that was making love to me. Last Christmas, having watched Mr Sam Waley-Cohen ride Long Run to victory in the big race at Kempton on Boxing Day, for some reason I have switched allegiance. Now I can’t seem to get Mr Waley- Cohen’s image out of my head (don’t you just love a man with a double-barrelled name?) even when my husband is not – err, treating me to his version of a performance. Have you any idea what I can do?

Spy says: Buy some glasses.

Hello Mate:

Just recently my betting has plumbed new depths. Truthfully, I can’t remember when I last backed a winner. It has got so bad that I am merely ticking off selections in the paper and monitoring their progress, feeling it is a cheaper alternative than backing everything I fancy.

Now my selections have started to win. As a result I missed a 7/1 winner last Saturday and a 9/2 winner this week. The question is, should I return to my betting ways now the tide seems to have turned, or continue to sit the whole thing out? I am frightened that as soon as I start playing with real money again everything will start losing.

Spy says: In most cases ticking off selections in a paper and monitoring their progress is a cheaper alternative than backing them. But if you wish to return to the betting jungle, your present dilemma is a common one for the gambler. The worst thing you can do is to let poor past results affect the future. If you do that you will make bad decisions and bad decisions have a habit of begetting even worse ones. Changing a proven strategy of backing horses (or anything for that matter) is likely to have an adverse effect on subsequent results. Before you know it you will be playing fruit machines, buying scratch cards and doing the lottery. I suggest you only resume betting when you feel better disposed toward the game – possibly in 2018.

Dear Spy:

Last Saturday I left the house early, leaving my husband in front of the television awaiting the start of the Morning Line. Intent of Christmas shopping, I took the car. After a few hundred yards the engine spluttered and the car came to an abrupt halt. I was able to park it by the kerb and walk back home to get my husband’s help. Once through the door I almost fell to the floor in disbelief. My husband was perched astride the arm of the sofa wearing a pair of jodhpurs, riding boots, a jockey cap and brandishing a whip whilst apparently riding out a finish and shouting, “What do you think of this Tanya?” I am 26, my husband is 28 and we have been married seven years. He has never expressed this kind of intense interest in racing before. His excuse for such irrational behaviour was he had been meaning to take riding lessons and often took tips from the guests and presenters appearing on Channel Four Racing. However, when I questioned him further he broke down and admitted he finds himself increasingly attracted to some lady betting person called Tanya Stevenson. I informed him such behaviour was intolerable from a grown man and that any recurrence would result in my leaving our marital home. Although I have not caught him ogling her on television lately, he has now started calling out her name in his sleep.

What do think is the best course of action?

Spy says: Winter is no time to be caught out by a temperamental vehicle. A car can stall for a variety of reasons. Often it is a carburettor fault or it could be the plugs or alternator. Assuming you are not a member of any of the motorist organisations, it is probably best to book it in at a garage. Chances are the remedy will prove to be simple and relatively inexpensive.

Dear Spy:

Ten years ago my husband filed for bankruptcy. Up to that point we had a profitable and thriving roofing business but it came to light he owed bookmakers tens of thousands of pounds and that his gambling had meant he had lost everything we had and more. After a period in therapy he appeared to be cured, but recently I caught my husband writing out a betting slip. Although he protested it was only in fun and that he had no intention of placing the wager, given that his past record suggests he couldn’t back a winner if he had a copy of tomorrow’s paper, what do you think I should do?

Spy says: Keep a copy of yesterday’s paper for him to read in future.

Hello Old Boy:

I have met a wonderful girl through a dating website. Not only is she stunning-looking but, as she loves horseracing we also have plenty in common. The trouble is she likes to attend race meetings and always expects to be taken to the members’ enclosure in style. She also has a taste for oysters and champagne. As you know going racing is hardly cheap at the best of times, therefore entertaining this filly is costing me a fortune. It has got to the stage when only a bonanza betting afternoon will finance her excesses. I have tried suggesting less extravagant dates, or even watching the racing together on television, but she claims that is not the same as a visit to the races complete with all the trimmings. She only seems to come alive when indulging in the high life and hanging out of the balcony of a private box at some racecourse, after which she stays over at my place. On the occasions we have met for a night at the movies or a low-key meal locally (I live in Basingstoke), she has always found an excuse to end the evening prematurely. Recently the bank has sent me a warning letter informing me I am in danger of exceeding my overdraft. I dearly love her company but am not sure I can afford to keep bankrolling these financially crippling jaunts. Any suggestions?

Spy says: You sound a right pair. I am assuming you know she is only after you for your money and that you are only after her for her … attributes. That being the case your relationship is doomed to be a short-lived one. That said, from your perspective the trick is to spin it out as long as possible, before she realises that instead of being the high-roller you have either pretended to be, or the cheapskate you actually are, you are overcome by her undoubted beauty and charm. However, don’t be fooled; she is hardly your average girl. From what you say, to quote Sir Winston Churchill, we know what sort of girl she is, we are merely haggling over the price. If you are sufficiently desperate, you could try telling her you are a bit strapped for cash as you have just had the bill from your bookmaker for your wager on Rocky Creek in the Hennessy. As a result you need to take it easy for a week or two while you find the money to settle up. The trouble with that is no woman (especially a gold-digger) wants to think they are saddled with a loser – worse, someone betting over his head. So you could compensate by telling her you have advanced-booked for the two of you to visit Dubai for the Gold Cup weekend in March. That might keep her on the boil long enough for you to get your money’s worth. That is until she discovers you are as shallow as she is and not in her league.

Hello Darling:

With Christmas approaching I am not sure if I should give my new boyfriend of ten months what he says he wants as a present. He would like to join a well-known racing syndicate and have a share in a racehorse. It is not that I can’t afford it; to be honest I come from a privileged background, but as I only requested a new mobile phone from him, I feel there is something of a balance to strike here. He is already sufficiently obsessed with all matters relating to horseracing as it is without me encouraging him further.

What do you think?

Spy says: I can’t say I like the sound of this. It may be better to give than receive, but it would appear your boyfriend proposes taking this to a whole new level. I mean, who does he think he is? A racehorse for Christmas! Unless your privileged background extends to the Aga Khan and his immediate family, I would send him a voucher to say he has contributed toward a fresh water scheme somewhere in India. Maybe you could send it to him by download on your new mobile phone…

Dear Mr Bond – is it:

I have a dilemma to share. As usual my husband and I have visitors on Boxing Day. The problem is that my husband will want to monopolise our only television in the afternoon to watch horse racing from, is it Hyde Park? Our visitors are quite straight-laced and have no interest in sport. Certainly they don’t deserve to be exposed to my husband’s antics. They would much rather play scrabble or watch a nice film over a glass of sherry and a mince pie. This is not possible as we have one large dining/sitting room and the television is a rather imposing fifty-inch version, which is not too unlike my lardy husband’s waist measurements these days. No one will want to see Reginald shouting and cheering to the strains of a race commentary as he slurps from his second bottle of Rioja. I mean it hardly makes for a peaceful afternoon does it?

Surely there must be something I can do.

Yours in desperation (name withheld).

Spy says: A number of possible solutions spring to mind. You could try telling your lardy husband that racing at Hyde Park is cancelled due to a last-minute Rolling Stones concert. But actually, as racing takes place at Kempton Park, that is unlikely to work. Alternatively you could cross your fingers and wish for a heavy snowfall on Christmas night; but, according to latest weather forecasts, prospects of that coming to the rescue seem remote. Being more practical, how about giving him a television as a Christmas gift, that way he could watch the big race in another room – out of sight is out of mind and all that. Better still; why not get rid of him completely. Yes, you could poison his turkey portion, hack him into little pieces, place him in the freezer and feed him to the wild life this winter – but that sounds risky and like hard work. Less drastically, you could buy him a ticket to Kempton Park races on Boxing Day and even ring round and see if any local travel firms are running a coach to the track. If they are not, maybe you could tell him he is on his way to Sunbury when it fact you have booked him on a (one-way?) trip to Dusseldorf and their Christmas market. That way you may not have to suffer him again until next year.

CHAMPIONS DAY – TELEVISED BLOG

A cracking Saturday which nearly brings the Turf Season to a close and we have five races featured on TV today.

1.45 Ascot

Very few front runners in this suggests that Harris Tweed could get an easy lead up front here and if he does he could be very hard to peg back. As shown in two races this season at Goodwood he has been very hard to peg back and on ground he loves he is definitely of interest over a trip expected to suit.

Ahzeemah likes it around here as well and comes here expected to go close as well and is another to consider in an open race.

Times Up & Biographer are closely matched on their Doncaster runs and the drop back in trip is likely to suit the latter better.

However the Ascot Gold Cup form of ESTIMATE is the best on offer and even over this shorter trip she looks to have solid claims. It’s her first run since her win at the Royal Meeting and she should prove very hard to beat here with plenty going for her.

Harris Tweed can give her most to think about.

Result

Estimate          unpl

Harris Tweed  2nd 8/1

2.20 Ascot

Improving sorts Balmont Mast (won last week), Viztoria (possibly better over 7f) and Heaven’s Guest (first run out of handicap company) are interesting in this open race but each need to step up at least 10lb to win this.

Slade Power is another with claims whilst L’Abbaye winner Maarek is definitely in love with the ground he has today and the stiff track really suits here. He comes here in top form and should go close again.

But for me JACK DEXTER is improving all the time and he looked to step up again when 3rd in the Ayr Gold Cup and really flew home from an unpromising draw.

Well drawn today and in good form, he looks set to improve again and for me over 6f he might be capable of better than Maarek and therefore at around 5/1 he is a solid ew proposition.

Result

Slade Power 1st 7/1

Jack Dexter  2nd 5/1 (Neck)

Viztoria           3rd 5/1

2.55 Ascot

This is a cracking fillies event and the news on the Newmarket gallop is that Hot Snap has really come on lately and working very well. She is still unexposed over this trip and stayed on very well last time. There could be more to come and the way she is working at home, she looks worth an ew.

Oaks winner Talent has to enter calcualtions on her Leger 2nd and Oaks Win but there could be a lack of pace here and therefore she could prove vulnerable.

Dalkala is definitely one who could take advantage and her performance when seeing off Tasaday last time is very solid and for me looks another solid ew.

I don’t rate Waila, and I think she was a fortunate winner last time and she certainly doesn’t work to this level at home, I’m keen to oppose her.

The other with value is The Lark who although behind Talent at Epsom has undoubtedly improved this season and her Doncaster win was most impressive and has been galloping very well at home lately. She will be up there so could get first run on the field here which will give her a big advantage and like Dalkala I like her ew, and it’s hard to split them.

Result

The Lark  … non runner

Waila      … opposed and beaten

Dalkala   … unpl

Talent      … 3rd 7/2

3.30 Ascot

One of the days feature and for me I’m not sure why Brian Ellison has supplemented Top Notch Tonto as a this level it is an ask too much and he needs to finish 3rd to recoup his 70k which I’m not sure he will. However taking a 70k gamble on him running well into 4th/5th to increase the horses value by more than 70k is a gamble I could understand but he is not a betting proposition.

Gordon Lord Byron has stamina issues to prove over this trip for me so he is discounted, whilst Elusive Kate for me is better on a sounder surface.

At big prices do not rule out Kingsbarns. He wouldn’t be the first O’Brien horse to bomb out badly after a break then bounce back to win or go well the next time and last season’s form is very impressive.

Olympic Glory in headgear is interesting as he is clearly quirky whilst the French fancy the chances of Maxios who was just in front of the former named last time.

Soft Falling Rain impressed last time and is another to consider whilst the ground has to be a worry given he has mainly only ever raced on fast ground.

That said they all need to go some to see off DAWN APPROACHwho didn’t give his best in Deauville and wasn’t suited how the race panned out . he is better than that and bacjk to his Ascot and Goodwood form, for me he will be very hard to beat and is the safest option. Kingsbarns as a 16/1 saver is also worth a look.

Result

Olympic Glory        1st 11/2

Kinsbarns                 3rd 14/1

4,05 Ascot

The Champion Stakes itself and having been way below par all season Cirrus Des Aigles has really bounced back in his last two races and will love the ground and he distanced any doubts he was past his best with a bloodless display at the L’Arc meeting. Bitterly disappointing here in June, he shouldn’t be written off lightly and remains one not to lay but maybe not the best value to bet at 11/10.

Ruler Of The World for me cant win and he wasn’t good enough in the L’Arc and won a very poor derby whilst Mukhadram should be there abouts and could get it easy up front, he is definitely one to consider.

Hillstar possibly wants further but will be running on so he has a place chance but for me the ew bet to nothing is FARHH . Godolphin’s runner has form over 10f and was brilliant in the Lockinge this year, this trip looks ideal and he has been burning up the Snailwell gallops in

Newmarket lately. Everything points to a big run today and I think he is a knocking ew and it would not surprise me to see him beat the French horse.

Result

Farhh Won 7/2 -> 5/2

Good luck

Update Saturday evening

BANKER BET, SEEK AGAIN WON

WAR COMMAND WON

The suggested Lay on 2/1 Fav GREAT WHITE EAGLE was successful

Saturday Blog  12th October.

8 races live on Tv today and here’s our quick guide to the first 6.

1.50 York

Probably the strongest bet of the date today for me and SEEK AGAIN is a banker win and place bet today. His close up 5th in the Cambridgeshire two weeks ago looks very solid with the 4th home Graphic winning well yesterday. Seek Again was outpaced before staying on strongly late on and the return to 10f will really suit this lightly raced colt.

The in form Thouwra could be still open to improvement whilst it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise to see King George River improve on his poor Cambridgeshire display back in a smaller field. However Seek Again remains progressive and is a cracking ew option.

2.05 Newmarket

Much will depend on how much last months poor run has taken out of the progressive Darwin who is sure to be happier back at 7f, but LOCKWOOD has looked in great form this season and showed a real battling attitude when going down narrowly last time when clear of the field. Two decent wins prior to that he has the beating of most of this field and again is respected ew.

2.20 York

Excellent Result could be interesting under all the weight allowances today and comes here in good form but FIRST MOHICAN is definitely more interesting back on a sound surface having not got home in the ground at Ayr last time. His best effort this season came over course and distance and back in a race where he has some of the best form he has a solid ew chance.

2.35 Newmarket

I think the key to this is Great White Eagle. He won easily in testing ground on his debut and despite winning well last time he beat little and took a long time to get going and for me he is crying out for 7f. This 6f trip I feel will just find him out for pace when it matters and with Astaire , Brown Sugar, Surdiman and Supplicant all pacey sorts I could see him finding it all too tough before staying on well. Personally I would be laying Great White Eagle. I was impressed with SUPPLICANT and the way he stretched away at the end of the Mill Reef and the rain falling is a bonus, a cracking ew price today and looks value to me today. Hot Streak who bolted up in the Cornwallis last time also looks solid ew value.

2.55 York

A cracking sprint and I really like OUTER SPACE who despite being no match for Hot Streak in the Cornwallis looks progressive. I think of all the field, he has the most speed to be suited by 5f and has the beating of Brave Boy & Rufford for my liking. Mushir is an interesting newcomer and won very well at Kempton on debut and could be open to more improvement, but Outer Space could get a boost of form in the Middle Park at 2.35 with Hot Streak and for me is a solid option.
3.10 Newmarket

A small field but it looks between the classy Ascot winner WAR COMMAND and Outstrip. There can be no doubt that Outstrip was impressive at Doncaster and is going the right way but War Command has looked better than ever over the 7f and today rates a strong bet. I would back him for the Guineas before today.

Good Luck

Saturday Double

The first of our two for Saturday comes in the 4.25 at Ascot and NARGYS can give Luca Cumani another big Saturday winner.

Best suited by these conditions she has been working really well at home and this looks a lot easier than the race she won at Doncaster.

A very good work horse she looks sure to follow up that win. 2pts win

The 4.45 at Newmarket see’s me looking at WINNING EXPRESS.

Not disgraced behind the classy Nargy’s at Doncaster she looks as if a drop to 6f is exactly what she needs and her run in the Cheveley Park here last season was a cracking effort.

She is 9/2 and a cracking ew bet. 3pts ew.

Good Luck

Saturday Blog

A cracking Saturday’s racing and it might be hard to match the achievements of a 40/1 winner last Saturday !

Today’s betting feature is the Cambridgeshire at 3.50 but we do have some other action on the box.

Paul Cole has openly said he has the best bunch of 2yo’s he’s had in a long time and BERKSHIRE can get the day off to a flyer in the 2.00 . He takes on Somewhat of Mark Johnston’s and Kingfisher today but the Chesham winner has been working seriously well at home lately and comes here after a break and connections believe he will take all the beating today. 2pts win.

The 2.35 is very open but I feel there is each way value to be had with Lady Cecil trained Joyeuse. She looked to get tired late on at Salisbury last time and I think the 2nd was flattered to get as close as she did. That horse re-opposes today but the prices mean Joyeuse is overpriced.

Her Ascot run was a cracking display and she comes here in very good form. She galloped well on Saturday morning and the yard think at 6/1 she is worth a 1pt ew bet.

SKY LANTERN is my banker of the day in the 3.10 and she should have won at Newmarket earlier in the season when hampered by Elusive Kate and her run at Goodwood is best forgotten as she didn’t get the trip after a troubled passage.

With a clear run today she can revert the Falmouth form and already holds Just The Judge twice this season. Integral is an improver but Sky Lantern is expected to return to her best today and at around 6/4 she is value to a 4pt win bet.

The Cambridgeshire is open at 3.50 and I like 5 in this, and I’m advising 1pt ew on the Selection, and 0.5pts ew on the remainder.

Fury can go well at big odds and having been midfield last season but not beaten too far he has had a fresher campaign this season and actually comes here in very smart form. He is 8lb lower as a result and just about see’s this trip out. He is one of Three Haggas horses I like in the race and I think he’ll go well.

King George River ran well last time and has the excellent Rob Tart on today taking off 3lb. Not disgraced in group company this return to handicaps will suit and he will be powering home late, I think he’ll take a hand.

Graphic is another of the Haggas horses who has found his feet of late and is suited by the hurley burley of big handicaps. He is well drawn here and comes here on the back of improved efforts and shouldn’t be discounted easy.

Top Notch Tonto is another who would have preferred some more cut but under his penalty he could be very well in having won well in listed company last time. He is improving all the time and really should be thereabouts.

However the one for me is one I’ve followed all year and I think NINE REALMS can take this for William Haggas.

Thought one time a group prospect he was given a poor ride on his return before making all to win well at Ascot. Another poor show last time he was too free in easy ground but the return to 9f on a galloping track and a sound surface is what he needs.

At the prices around 20/1 he is overpriced and expected to see him dropped in early and produced late under Liam Jones who rides him out at home. He is definitely well handicapped and is great value to lead the Haggas team home in their quest for glory. He is the 1pt ew selection, with 0.5pts ew savers on the others.

Good Luck

 Saturday 21st

Good Afternoon

A fantastic day’s racing ahead with the feature Ayr Gold & Ayr Silver Cups the highlights this afternoon;

Ayr Silver Cup (2.40)

The key to yesterday’s Bronze Cup was a huge benefit to those horses drawn high and I forecast much of the same here today. If you are betting in this race today make sure you use Bet365, SkyBet or Betfred, they are paying 1-2-3-4-5 1/4 odds, whilst most of the other firms are only 1-2-3-4.

Take Cover is one of four I like in this race and he comes here in super form, a bold front running effort on faster ground at Goodwood he has form in the past on a slower surface and narrowly denied at Goodwood, he has been rested for this race. Well drawn today he comes here in terrific form and off what looks a competitive mark. It’s hard to make all here but he could go close to doing so.

Another I would want on our side is Picture Dealer. I can forgive him a poor run last time and the time previous at Goodwood things never went right for him. 6f is ideal and in stall 15 he should tag onto the pacey side of highly drawn horses. He comes here working well at home and his mark isn’t too bad, I can see him flashing home into the mix.

Top weight Ancient Cross is a sneaky one at big odds as well. He flew home in the Portland and is at his best with cut in the ground and the return to 6f would suit. I fancied him at long odds for the Gold Cup but he missed the cut by one and in typical fashion there is now a non runner in the feature. Very well drawn he should get a really good take into the race and at big odds he is value.

The final one of interest in an open contest is also a big price and Polski Max is closely matched with a few of these from form earlier in the season and he has slipped back to a competitive mark. He loves this ground and whilst he is not drawn great, I think he can run a decent race.

I advise 0.5pts EW on all four selections.

Ayr Gold Cup (3.50)

The Gold Cup is a cracking race but is very tough. Jack Dexter is respected back on ground he loves but I just think it’s a tough task under this weight.

Tropics has been in fine form this season and for me he is weight nicely to go close here. I think he is a group horse in the making and think he’ll go very close today. He is well drawn.

Hoof It is another who has just started to come back to form and he remains off 107 despite being raised to 109 after his 3rd in the Sprint Cup. Best with cut in the ground and in great form, he won’t be far away.

At a big price Humidor has dropped to a fair mark and comes here on the back of a fair run last time. He is probably better on a sounder surface but he is not one I would discount easy and at 40/1 there is value about him.

Duke Of Firenze is another who will love the ground and working very well at home and step up to 6f today is going to suit. Found out in Group Company the last twice, back into handicaps this looks ideal and I think she is very overpriced.

My final one to include is Red Dubawi who was once a class act and has come down to a decent mark now and this 6f on easy ground really suits. I think this has been trained for the race and has a very solid attitude. I really fancy this one from the high draws and is well treated. Big chance !

Again I advise 0.5pts Ew on all five selections.

Hope we’re in the money in the big races
Good Luck

TV Racing Tips

Good Morning:

Three cracking bets today on the TV races.

In the 2.05 at Doncaster look no further than THE GREAT GATSBY . The Mastercraftsman colt was still very green behind Treaty Of Paris last time and has come on no end since Working really well. The yard hold him in high regard and the recent rain has improved his chances . He will improve past the Henry Candy horse today and prove hard to beat. 4pts win.

Soft ground horses are key and GREGORIAN is value Ew in the 3.15. He won nicely last time and his best form as shown at Epsom is good enough here. He caught the eye on the Cambridge Road Polytrack last weekend and at 9/2 is a 1pt Ew bet.

Our final bet is in the 3.50 and is LIBERTARIAN and despite being in the Godolphin 3rd silks today he is the most strongly fancied of the trio. He has been trained for this race and his fast finishing 2nd in the Derby gives him a huge chance. He wants this ground and the Irish Derby run is best discounted . A cracking 7/1 bet he is advised at 2pts Ew

Good luck

Good morning

Sadly the post was struck yesterday twice with Masamah (2nd at 6/1) and Excellent Puck (2nd at 20/1 into 12/1).

Today’s is the trickiest of the four days of the meeting with just the one advice.

It comes in the 3.15 and personally I would advise joining an orderly queue in Stan James and getting on THE LARK in the 3.15 at 15/8.

Michael Bell’s filly was a cracking 3rd in the Oaks before things didn’t go her way in Italy last time.  Steadily progressing all season she has been crying out for this step up in trip and even better she has the soft ground she needs to be seen to her best.

Her work at home lately has also been most impressive and this actually looks a weak renewal of the race.

There also looks some pace in the race that will definitely suit, but it really does look a hard race to find anything with the form to beat The Lark.

I can’t see this beat and I’m having a decent punt.

Tomorrow’s racing offers more value across the card for us

Good Luck

Todays Racing Tips Blog from John, Wednesday Sept 11th

Good morning;

Day one of the St Leger festival starts today with four fantastic days of racing ahead.

A mix of conditions races and handicaps start the festival today and we have three good bets on the opening day card.

MASAMAH (3,00) should be a good starting point to the meeting and done well to finish as close as he has the last twice as he was poorly drawn and also been slowly away from those draws and not been able to lead as he likes to.

He drops in class today and is well drawn today and won’t mind if the forecasted rain arrives. He likes an aggressive ride which is expected today and whilst he looks held on form with Justineo on the Goodwood run, missing the break that day gave him no chance and with a good start today he can settle on the heels of the leader and unlike most of these the ground if it goes on the slow side of good won’t worry him. He is in good form and at 6/1 with bet365 there is ew value to be had with him.

The 3.35 had me puzzling about one horse, notably EXCELLENT PUCK of Jamie Osborne’s with recently retired yard assistant trainer Jimmy McCarthy in the saddle.

Having won off 70 over an extended mile at Wolverhampton he figured around 79, but the horse who was raised to 76, has fallen off the radar in his next three starts.

I spent months thinking why is this horse running so badly after an impressive win and whilst the win was on the all weather so I was thinking all weather touch, he blatantly hasn’t been put in races knowing despite travelling easy he wouldn’t see out longer trips. Very clever Mr Osborne !

However any plans of an AW coup fell on deaf ears as the handicapper has left him at 75 on the all weather but slipping to 70 gave him the opportunity to get in this race.

Dropped to 72 in May, I think connections knew that Jimmy was retiring recently (so much fitter than most of his rivals) and that they knew they could give this horse a break to take it off edge and having just been dropped 3lb in two runs, it was always likely that a poor run on return would see him dropped the 2lb to get into this race.

Connections were more clever, by running on the 25th Aug, they would have known on the 27th if they could get into the race but also knew they had up until the mark by the 3rd of Sep to get a run in this race and with that if he wasn’t dropped 2lb had another week to run him to make sure he got in here, clever again.

By Excellent Art ground will not pose any problems and the return to a galloping mile with a strong pace is what he wants.

This is a very carefully planned gamble with a horse we already know is capable of running to 80, running off 70 with a 5lb 3yo allowance, with a rider on who is the yards assistant trainer and he will know the horse inside out.

Proper good old fashioned gamble on the cards and weak on the exchanges overnight, I predict a push out. 16/1 ew with many firms today and four places, I’ve either read into this too much, or I’ve got the script bang on. Either way at 16/1 I’m willing to find out ! Ew advised.

We finish in the 4.45 where I feel CHILWORTH ICON is ready to resume winning ways.

I have been laying this horse for most of the season waiting for him to slip back into a 0-90 or 0-95 over 7f or over a mile, and like a kid who waits for Santa all season, my prayers are finally answered.

Sadly no it doesn’t mean I finally get the Woody and Buzz Lightyear I wanted all those years ago only to have my faith in Santa destroyed but the principle is the same of carefully dissecting a horses ability and working out it’s optimum grade and ability and making a note of it on a wish list.

This is the best way to find yourself good gambles and bets, but it requires being able to read horses and understand their abilities.

Something I believe I’m good at and if you are, you can find yourself a number of winners a year that most people will miss as they fall into the “this horse is regressive trap”. Anyway I’ve side tracked slightly.

Chilworth Icon started the season rated 103 running in group 3 company and was hampered at the start of the race but still ran well enough behind Havana Gold.

Running off the same mark behind the much improved Garswood next time again in listed handicap company he was just shaping like a horse in need of a drop in the ratings but more importantly he does not want fast ground.

On his next run dropped to 100, he nearly caused an upset when he ran 3rd in a strong 6f 0-100 handicap.

Rain fell on the morning of the race and he raced prominently where his stamina kicked in, he was a good 3rd but I’m far from convinced he was meant to as he raced handy and he normally likes to be dropped in.

Back up to 101 he ran on very quick ground at York and was never put into the race reverting back to 6f.

Returning to 100 next up at Newmarket he was dropped to 5f to make sure and made good late headway under a fair ride to finish a close up 5th on ground he relishes.

The handicapper not amused with this effort didn’t drop him so back to 6f it was back on rock hard ground and not put in the race.

Result out the back and the handicapper fell for it, dropped to 98.

Now the tester run came on his next start, Up to 7f at goodwood in a competitive contest. Having had a weak draw he was never put in the race and found a lot of trouble as if he wasn’t looking for the gaps he was finding. He stayed on well at the finish but was beat 9L and had I not spent the race watching him I probably wouldn’t have ever noticed him.

Off to Ascot off 95 with Cathy Gannon on over 6f, he was free early and didn’t get the cover he needed but ran a cracker beaten less than a length in 4th, but this was in 0-100 company and she looked at pains not to win on him.

The handicapper put him back to 96, so in true Channon plotting one up he had to disappoint last time.

Off to Newmarket up in class over 6f and racing on the worse part of the course, out in midfield but travelling easy he noticed a horse hanging and got on the outside of it to ensure was carried across the course. Don’t believe me, watch the replay the rider would never have got hampered until he made the move to make sure he was on the side of the horse that was hanging outwards. Finishing 6th and had he stayed straight would have been a great deal closer he got the drop to 95 again.

I think Channon knows he’s can’t slip any lower and is now dangerously well handicapper and they have nearly messed it up twice.

Well no fast ground today and back to the ideal 7f on a galloping track with plenty of pace in the contest and a big drop in class.

His last 6 runs have come in, 0-105, 0-100, 0-105, 0-105, 0-105 and 0-105 and now drops into 0-95 for the first time in ages and has the trip and ground ideal with more rain a bonus not a negative.

Well drawn back to 7f in gate 5, you can notice Martin Harley the stable jockey back on who only rode him when 3rd this season (best run) and has won on him twice before.

Now this is a competitive race  but dropping in class taking on lesser horses he has plenty going for him and every box is ticked for me today, including value. He’s the best horse in the race yet is a staggering 25/1 with Bet365, 4 places. Cracking ew value and my best bet of the day.

Good Luck

Todays Racing Tips Blog from John, Saturday Sept 7th

8 Races on TV today and I’ve got three strong bets for you on the televised races.

We start with the 1.55 at Ascot and I would advise a decent ewon PYTHAGOREAN today.

Roger Charlton’s runner was too wide throughout last time at Goodwood and having been bumped and pushed deeper around the bends done well to finish in 6th.

Having previously been very unlucky at Goodwood and Sandown previously, he is still very well handicapped and he has been working like a listed horse for some time on the Beckhampton gallops. Steve Drowne rides today and at 6/1 ew with BET365 he looks cracking value.

The 2.20 at Kempton is our second advice and forget his poor previous efforts this season, MAIN SEQUENCE is back in flying form at home and comes here in seriously good nick.

David Lanigan gave the majority of his yard a break when they weren’t firing but have come back in great form and his gallop on Tuesday with Biographer was simply astounding.

He is definitely back to his best today and 6/1 ew with Stan James is value not to be missed.

My final and best bet of the day comes in the 2.40 at Haydock where MONTIRIDGE will give Richard Hannon another big Saturday winner.

Improving all the time this season he gallops fine at home and comes here very strongly fancied.

The ease in the ground is actually a bonus for him and with only Nine Realms and Tawhid looking any substance of a danger, Montiridge can continue his forward progress and give us a good value treble on the day. Even money Bet365 get on !!

Also from that Race expect a big effort from Nine Realms, he works like a group horse at home and done us a nice turn winning at Ascot last time.

He has ew value at 10/1 and should place but note whatever he does today he is being targeted for the Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket on the 28th September and he is currently 16/1 with Paddy Power and Stan James.

A good run today without winning would see his price shorten considerably and I would advise an ante post bet today. He is number 30 in the weights, so is guaranteed a run (34 max) and even if he won today would only get a 4lb penalty for the race. I don’t think he’ll be 16/1 for the race come 3pm today.

Good Luck

Thursday 5th Sept

Good Morning;

A couple of decent races today to get stuck into;

The feature is at 3.45 where for me JOYEUSE this sister of Frankellooks a cracking bet.

She was an impressive winner on debut at Lingfield before an improved effort to be 3rd at Royal Ascot.

Rested since she has been working very impressively at home and galloped 4L clear of an older companion over the weekend. The yard remain in good form at present and she is a very decent who is suited to this trip of 6f.

Her opposition is solid but in the likes of Lilbourne Lass she faces a horse who has been held at this grade and hasn’t convinced she truly see’s out the 6f, whilst the Godolphin runner Wedding Ring ran on well last time over 7f, suggesting she might be vulnerable to a horse such as Joyeuse with the turn of foot she possesses.

Dorothy B was fortunate to beat a slow starting Hoku at Nottingham but remains progressive nonetheless and should run her race. If improving she could place but again her form is far inferior to those with proven listed and group race form.

Both Alutiq and Lamar have won at lesser grades and run well on the balance of form, but both look vulnerable at this level.

Joyeuse looks the one not just with the best form but with the profile to be best suited by this stiff 6f and at 8/11 looks a solid bet to me.

I’m doubling her up as well with SEBASTIAN BEACH in the 2.10 and Richard Hannon’s runner was green as grass on debut but caught many eyes staying on powerfully. getting weight off a winner of a modest contest today, he looks open to a lot of improvement and his other two rivals look limited in ability.

The way he works at home suggests he can win this comfortably and again at 8/11 is priced right.

Cracking value as a double as well which will pay around 5/4

(Note from Bob. Slight maths error here from John, he’s a horseman not a maths boffin! It actually pays closer to 2/1. Good luck Bob)

Good Morning

It’s a tight day’s racing today but we’ve concentrated on the best meeting of the day for today’s blog.

Goodwood Racing today

2.20

Martian needed the run on debut but has improved since that run and goes well at home, he looks to have a solid chance today in a maiden that lacks a lot of strength in depth.

Advisory has improved since his first run and could be the principal danger, whilst Wizara is another who goes okay.

Nickel’s And Dimes is becoming a disappointing sort and is not one I like very much whilst Bold Citizen and Diamond Mine both will benefit with time.

2pts Win

2.55

This looks a match on paper with Richard Hannon’s Tea In Transvaal showing a lot of improvement lately at home and she was still green when running 2nd in a strong maiden last time, with further improvement she can improve past Tinga whose form is solid but was possibly flattered in an average group contest last time and probably falls some way short of a group horse.

She is definitely the biggest danger in what is a good maiden for the track.

Criteria is reportedly a forward sort who is expected to go well whilst, Arabian Comet is better than showed on debut and has been crying out for a mile, she’ll be doing her best work late on.

1pt Win

3.30

Al Baz has a bit to find at the weights and is definitely vulnerable here, whilst Rosso Corsa is interesting dropped markedly in class but whilst performing with credit lately is vulnerable to an improver and did run a shade flat on Saturday.

Lyn Valley is definitely interesting having come 2nd in a very strong maiden here before a good win last time in which the 2nd franked the form at Thirsk when beating a very decent field for that track. Lyn Valley has always been held in high regard by his connections and is definitely of interest.

Wahaab won well on his debut and was quietly fancied for the Coventry but came up short despite only being beat 7L. He has been working well since and is another to come here with solid claims, but for me Lyn Valley has shown enough in his last two starts to suggest he has the make up of a group performer and he can improve past the likes of Rosso Corsa today who appeals as a lay to me.

2pts Win

4.05

Deeds Not Words lost nothing in defeat here last time flashing home and this is markedly weaker. Mick Channon’s runner has been going well at home and is strongly fancied to collect today.

Expert is another who is consistent and has a solid chance, whilst Crowdmania can’t seriously be advised after two very disappointing efforts lately leave a serious question as to how genuine he is.

Memory Styx doesn’t know how to run a bad race and possibly had her stamina stretched last time over 7f but the drop back to 6f will definitely suit. The handicapper has been fair taking 2lb off her back and it’s a pity there isn’t 8 runners as she would have been an ideal ew. I do think she can complete a Channon forecast in the race though.

1pt RFC Deeds Not Words / Memory Styx

4.40

The feature at 4.40 is definitely a close encounter and there is very little between Broxbourne and Mawaqeet on their recent run when only a whisker separated them.

A lb better off Mawaqeet certainly has enough of a swing to get the upper hand today.

Mutual Regard would be very interesting if getting a soft lead which is possible and he has been working very well at home lately so expect a big run from him, whilst for me the value is with Waterclock ew who is steadily improving, stays well and will benefit from a decent pace today. He is 3lb better off with Argent Knight on their Newmarket run and I think he will get a more generous pace today to suit, and is value around 6/1.

1pt Ew

5.10

A tricky handicap, Mick Channon’s Tidentine is not without claims and goes okay at home, but one suspects 7f would perhaps suit a bit better nowadays.

However in a tight race with plenty of pace it’s hard to see the back to form Clear Praise not going close and a win two back, he backed that up with a solid 2nd at Epsom staying on well behind a ready winner but holding the remainder of the field. He goes well here and is value ew.

1pt Ew

5.40

I’ve not much interest in the last race as it’s very tricky but feel Swift Blade who is likely to have needed the run last time, is well handicapped on old form and giving weight to lesser rivals today may suit, he should be around the 5/1 mark and is sure to run his race with Adam Kirby booked and looks value ew as an ew bet to nothing.

No bet advised

Monday 2nd Sep

Good Morning

A few near hits on Saturday with York Glory that should have won, and a fine run from Handsome Man at Chester going close to good returns.

Today’s racing is weak with nothing advised but later on today we’ll send out a low down of what was going on, on the gallops in Newmarket over the weekend.

Good Luck

Good Morning;

Here is my (Johns) advice on the televised TV races.

2.05 Sandown

A strong 5f handicap to start proceedings and those drawn high face a disadvantage.

On day one of James Doyle the new Abdullah jockey I find it strange to see him not on Mission Approved in the opener.

His ride on top weight Pandar catches the eye and now dropped in class is interesting. Having once been rated 110, he represents the Robert Cowell yard who are now coming into form and well drawn in stall five, he likes to chase a strong pace which he is sure to get with the likes of Swendab, Joe Packet, Edge Closer and Fratellino in the race.

Personally those drawn high face a big disadvantage and with Swendab in 13, Mission Approved in 16, and the visored Dungannon in ten I feel there is value to look amongst the bigger prices drawn low who could get the race to suit.

Tidal’s Baby likes to come from off the pace and would have claims but from stall 2, he will need a lot of luck in running and he prefers more as a place chance than a winning one.

The same could be said about Joe Packet, he’ll track the pace but from stall 9 he might find himself a bit deep and that concerns me whilst O’Gorman is another who will be held up is the potential improver and could be well in here after impressing last time.

That said when all of these are looking for runs, Pandar should have been able to track the pace from a good draw and get first run on the field. On Betfair at present he is 16.5 in the win market and 3.85 in the place market with 4 places paid despite Artic Lynx and Taajub being non runners.

1pt Ew Advised @ 16.5 & 3.85 Pandar

2.20 Chester

This is an open looking race but Andrew Balding’s New Forest really caught the eye with an impressive win last time and is attractively well drawn in stall one here today.

Winning around another tight track in Warwick, the course will be no problem and he powered away to win by over 3L beating a couple of fair sorts in the process. Up 9b as a result, he has the very talented Oisin Murphy taking 7lb off today and getting plenty of weight and a strong pace to chase he is very interesting over this ideal trip. There is also plenty of pace for him to track and he should get first run on those that look to have claims but are held up. Free Zone is interesting back in a realistic grade but stall 12 is no help, whilst El Viento has slipped to a mark he really should be capable off.

For me New Forest is definitely a horse well ahead of the handicapper and in a race full of regressive types or ones who have reached the ceiling of their ability she is the only unexposed type and will take plenty of beating.

1pt Ew Advised @ 9/2 Stan James – New Forest

2.30 Beverley

Things haven’t dropped right for YORK GLORY (NAP) since winning the Wokingham but this stiff 5f is right up his street and he is very well drawn today.

He has the delight of a massive drop in class from his recent 8th in the Nunthorpe and best for him is that there is so many pace angles here for him today he should have no problem coming off a decent gallop.

Balista, Inxile, Masamah, Stepper Point, Tangerine Trees, Caladonia Lady, Bailey’s Jubilee and Pearl Sea will ensure this is a fast run race and with most of these glorified handicappers there are very few proven group horses in the field.

York Glory an impressive Wokingham winner, looks sure to be able to make the step up and with only Excellette and Minalisa (need to improve 7lb or so) in any real sort of form, things look set up for him and for me he is today’s banker . Max EW – Nap

5pts Ew Advised @ 5/1 Bet365 – YORK GLORY

(Note from Bob: 2nd beaten a neck! Gambled down to 11/4 Favourite. you dont get any closer han that! a small profit but very cruel!)

2.40 Sandown

can’t really advise a bet in this, but for all the right reason’s I hope Kingman puts up an impressive display. There was a lot to like about his win last time and he looks a promising colt going places and a potential Guineas prospect.

2.55 Chester

Es Que Love looks sure to lead up from a good draw and ensure there is a good pace and he might prove hard to catch, but things haven’t dropped right for Enrol lately and she ran on well in listed company last time in 4th and was going on at the finish. Definitely more to come today up to 7.5f and drawn in stall 6 she should be able to slot in nicely behind the pace. She has been working very well at home and she should be a solid ew option here.

Mabait from a high draw is interesting as well and has a talented 7lb claimer up today. I think he is another who can go close but will need plenty of luck if he drops in from his wide pitch.

Alejandro is another who is sure to run a good race over a trip he likes, but I can’t have Correspondent who despite liking the track has a tall task from stall 11 given he likes to race handy and he is up 7lb from his recent win and the ground is also drying out which isn’t ideal for him. For me the value lies with Enrol who is solid ew now over a more ideal trip.

1pt Ew Advised @ 6/1 Stan James – Enrol

3.15 Sandown

Again another race I won’t be advising a bet in but I’m looking forward to the clash between Integral who works like a group one horse on the Newmarket gallops and Zibelina who in 2 years I’ve not seen a better work horse at Godolphin’s and she laughs at everything on the home track.

Both look good fillies with massive futures and this looks a great battle today.

3.30 Chester

This is a tight handicap and the likes of Guarantee, Montaser and Tempest Fugit will have their fans but for known reaosns including quirks and absence, they aren’t safe options.

Star Lahib is an improver who is definitely respected, whilst Sun Central who missed the Ebor last week because of soft ground will be happier on a sound surface. Top weight won’t make it easy however.

Alta Lilea could be value ew as she could get a soft lead whilst the Prescott trained Savanna La Mar is well treated on the face of her last run and shapes as if this trip will suit and firmly holds Bite Of The Cherry on that form.

All that aside, Handsome Man is interesting taking on some fillies here and he is definitely well treated. He was 2nd in a good time on his second start this season and that race has worked out very well. He was made fav for the Northumberland Plate next time out but didn’t stay and was far too free early and hated what looked dead ground. Since then he has been dropped a lb by the handicapper making him only 2lb higher than when second to Highland Castle and his work at home has been most impressive.

On Tuesday he really impressed galloping all over a decent companion and he has been aimed at this for some time. He is very well handicapped and a strong pace which he’ll get here and this ideal trip and ground is everything he needs and whilst confidently fancied by the yard as well, he appeals to me in many ways as the solid ew in the race.

2pts Ew Advised @ 8/1 Bet365 – Handsome Man

3.50 Sandown

A tricky handicap to finish proceedings and it’s very open that many can win. I’m leaving it alone betting wise, but think those who use the exchanges should bet Sennockian Star to place. A model of consistency, he keeps defying the handicapper and the track will suit him and with a yard pace setter in the race he should track him through and run his race. It’s hard to see him out the first four and should be around even money to place.

Good Luck

Horse Racing Tips Today, 30th August 2013

Good Morning

A tough but competitive days racing today and we have decided to go without a selection today as we feel there is little in the way of value.

We can pass on that in the 2.10 at Thirsk Hartwell is fancied ew around 10/1 but the Stoute horse will be hard to beat.

However we have a bumper edition tomorrow with 6 races featured and a bold double figures Nap we expect to win one of the big TV races, this will go out tonight at 9.30pm, where prices with Bet365 and Ladbrokes can be taken.

Good Luck

Cautionary Note from Bob.

I don’t want to put you off a big priced winner but I have doubts. “John” has put this up at a 1pt ew bet but my figures indicate the stables horses are NOT running 100% and if you do get involved I would reduce your stake to maybe 1/4 or 1/2 pt ew.

John is right it is value and you could probably bet it at 33/1 and then sell off your bet at a lower price to get a free bet (called arbing) You might like to consider that. Remember you don’t have to bet every horse you hear about. Sometimes it’s good to note the information and then just watch.

A juicy 33/1 tip today! Thurs 29th August

Good Morning

Sky Garden gave us a nice 13/8 winner yesterday backed into 11/8 but the chance of a strong profit on the day was wiped out when the Godolphin horse in the evening failed to score. End of the day was a minor profit.

A poor day’s racing today with only horse standing out to me; In the 5.40 at Lingfield I am keen ew on the chances of Overrider at 33/1 with Bet365 and I’m advising a 1pt ew stake.

Alastair Lidderdale’s runner is part owned by the gambler Bill Hinge and whilst his first two runs for the stable have been a shade disappointing he has now dropped from a mark of 78 to 67.

Having spent his 2yo career with Charlie Hills his form on the all weather reads 41435 and he was campaigned at 7f when not really staying the trip and shapes as if 6f will be more his cup of tea. Badly missing the break on both starts to date he likes to race forward and his first four runs on the all weather (one over 6f) is certainly good enough to give him a chance here.

Lightly raced he had foot problems when first joining the Lidderdale team and would have needed the first run back but the Newbury run is best forgot having missed the break a long way. Taking a big drop in class today into a 0-70 (highest rated 69), and returning to the all weather he really does catch the eye and is definitely the wrong price.

He is also very well drawn in stall 2 as well.

Having run to 70 and 71 in two handicaps on the all weather, the return to an artificial surface will suit today and he ran to those marks off 76 and 75, so now off 67 he is open to run parallel to 76/77 if he can return to that level of form, and if he does he’ll be very hard to beat.

At 33/1 with Bet365 there is definitely value to be had and worth a 1pt ew stake.

Good luck

A Couple of Horse Racing Tips Today, 28th August 2013

Good Morning

A place at 12/1 to start with but a poor show from Donny Rover yesterday. We have two horses to advise on today.

2pts Win Sky Garden @ 13/8

We start in the 2.40 at Catterick where I personally feel the 13/8 with Bet Victor that is currently available is great value.

She was a non stayer over longer trips than 6f and whilst it remains unknown whether she has trained on this season, the overall level of her form suggests that over 6f (led at Bath and ran well enough) she is capable of running to her mark.

Her main rivals today look Discussion To Follow who was well backed on debut at Redcar and whilst travelling well for a long way, didn’t find much under pressure and that form already looks pretty modest with the close 2nd Mishaal, beaten fair enough back in handicap company next time out.

Both Shillito and Red Red Wine are fair sorts but neither have actually regularly performed to their respected handicap marks of late but the fact they have marks in the 60s means that Sky Garden is a bigger price than she should be.

I don’t think that she is ungenuine, I just feel she is limited, but if she can run to 60 today, she will win and in my eyes she is more than capable of doing that.

3pts Win Madhiyah @ 11/10

The best bet of my day comes in the 7.10 at Kempton and I think MAHDIYAH will prove a good deal too good for the level of opposition which looks rather limited today.

Having ran very green and missed the break on debut, the daughter of Halling made good progress up the straight and was staying on the one pace, running green.

Beaten by a fair sort that day she had the remainder of a field similar to tonights rivals well behind her. She has done nothing but improve since and galloped impressively at the weekend. She is only 11/10 today, but that does look great value in a poor maiden and is a strong bet for me.

Good Luck

Two Horse Racing Tips for Today 27th August 2013

Morning Bob;

Well it’s back to work for most after the Bank Holiday weekend and we are not graced with the greatest of racing, but after 9 meetings yesterday that isn’t hardly a surprise.

Small fields also don’t help the value train into the station as well and those that did have the dead eight have conveniently for the bookmakers found a non runner amongst them !

The 5.15 at Ripon is where we start today and JAN SMUTS takes my eye with the talented 7lb claimer Kevin Stott riding him for the first time today. Having won impressively off 57 earlier in the season, in 3 of his last four races he has been given hopeless rides in amateur rider handicaps and although the form of his run 2 back at Catterick hasn’t worked out greatly, I think he ran a pleasing race when 5th to Tartan Jura. Given plenty to do off a slow gallop he was always lugging to his right, and for me he is a horse that is best right handed. Despite one win left handed, his other 2 are at right handed tracks and the majority of his best form comes right handed.

He is also best when having a decent pace to track and with Not Till Monday, Kayef and Generous Dream likely to set a decent gallop, with pressure from Naburn close up, this could be set up for Jan Smuts who having won off 51 and 57, has struggled off marks above 60 lately, but today returns to a mark of 60 and has a further 7lb off his back, with an apprentice who rides as good as any 5lb claimer, so is probably worth a good 2lb extra. Back on a sound surface will also help Wilf Storey’s runner and he is definitely at his best on a sound surface. Everything points in the direction of a good run today and at11/1 with Bet Victor & Sky Bet there is value to be had. 1pt Ew advised.

The 5.45 is the second of our bets today at Southwell and whilst he is thoroughly exposed in most people’s eyes I think you could do a lot worse than having a 2pt Ew bet on DONNY ROVER at 9/2 with Bet365, returning a minor profit if placed, you also have the attraction of best odds guaranteed and if he drifts your place return could be enhanced, that aside I think he has the credentials to win this.

Well backed on debut in the Brocklesby, he came from a long way back to finish midfield and was never quick enough for 5f next time out when a well bet favourite. His 3rd start he ran to 63, finishing 4th in a Doncaster maiden which has worked out very well. The 2nd, 3rd and 5th are all winners rated in the 70s whilst the winner Haikbidiac, was not disgraced in the Weatherby’s Super Sprint, before winning the DBS Sales race at York last week. Donny Rover was always outpaced that day over 5f and kept on as if 6f would be ideal. He also enjoys being dropped in, so next time at Haydock, he was rushed to chase a strong pace over 6f, and the horse just never really looked comfortable and I was happy to ignore that effort. Starting to look exposed, his next 4th at Ayr was played down by many but I wouldn’t be harsh to judge again.

The winner Queen Catrine is proven in listed / group company whilst, the 2nd Tanseeb rated 88, went down narrowly in a strong Goodwood nursey last time. 72 rated State Anthem of Mick Channon’s was 3rd, whilst 76 Straits Of Malacca (3rd in strong York nursery recently) was behind in 5th. 70 rated Mark Johnston runner Handwoven in 6th. That form no matter how you look at it, is very solid.

His 7f effort next time can easily be written off again, as he walked out the stalls and was never put in the race, although the race like most his maiden’s has worked out well. 7th next up at Chester, he again was slowly away and whilst he kept on a 3.25L 6th, he wasn’t making in roads in the final 100yrds so I’m not convinced he stayed. That race was won by Finn Class and the form has also been franked by those in behind. Last time out he paid the price over 7f at Muss, for again chasing a stupid pace and until the final furlong he actually looked the likely winner. He was not given a hard time once his chance had gone and is value to have finished close than the 5L he was beaten. The 2nd Gallic Breeze has subsequently won and Damaah caught the eye in 4th at Haydock with a better run , having been well behind Donny Rover in this maiden. Donny Rover has consistently run 60-67 in his races and his rating of 69 is actually a fair reflection of his form, but personally I think he is unlucky not to have won a maiden and this is by far the weakest maiden he has run in.

James Tate’s Black Vale looked very one paced when 9th on debut and was a very one paced 3rd over 7f here last time, not really suggesting 6f would be ideal. He has run to 41 and 53 on both starts and even on the avg of Donny Rover’s form, has 10lb to find with him and has to find a gear change from somewhere to be suited by 6f, that’s unlikely ! The odds on favourite Zal Zilhom is likely to prove to be the one to beat, but on debut was no match for Ocean Storm that day weakening in the final 1f and it’s interesting that the 2nd has been well beat on his only start since, and the winner was beaten next time out. That said Ocean Storm (albeit on debut) has already been beaten by Donny Rover and he gave the Kevin Ryan horse a 9L beating that day ! Zal Zilhom did improve next time when dropped back to 6f at Ripon, but again having traveled well in the lead, he looked vulnerable off the bridle and was seen off by Pensax Lad comfortably by 3/4L in the end and the winner was rated 71 going into the race, having consistently looked a 70 horse in 4 runs previous. That puts Zal Zilhom no better than 67/68 and he doesn’t strike me as the type to improve again.

The other three consist of a Mark Usher newcomer who is not known for debut 2yo winners, and the Roy Bowring runner showed little on debut. The same can be said of Alan McCabe’s Red Biba which has also shown nothing in 2 starts.

It looks a three horse contest on paper, but for me Donny Rover is best suited to 6f, and will get a nice pace set by Zal Zilhom to chase here, and knowing that rival is rather one paced and limited off the bridle (as shown in two starts) he will have enough to see him off, or if he does at least be second, as the Tate horse has 10lb to find, and has not shown in his 2 starts that he has enough pace against genuine 6f types and would prob be of more interest in an 8f nursery next time. Zal Zilhom who has been beaten by 2 70 rated prospects and comfortably in both starts faces today, another solid 70 horse, who has always run 62/70 in his races and is consistent enough to run well off 72 in a nursery and has been unfortunate to meet some decent types when running out places in strong maidens. This is by far his easiest task to date and at 9/2, screams cracking ew value in a race the worse I can see him coming is 2nd !!
Good Luck[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Genuine Horse Racing Information

Have you noticed the hundreds of “tipsters” nowadays who email, write and text with “hot information”? They claim a stack of big priced winners. And then want your money up front for a monthly or annual subscription?

And then as soon as you sign up the miracle flow of winners  suddenly dries up?

Have you ever wondered why they wanted the money in advance? Maybe they knew their tips were crap?

This Service is different

I’m different to most “tipsters” because I’m a Professional Gambler. Frankly I never dreamt of becoming a tipster when I started betting horses. All I wanted to do was bet and win. But when I learnt how to  beat the bookies I discovered something else …

Bookies are spineless, cowardly sheep who will not continue to take bets off you if you  win a lot of money! Eventually every bookie I bet with banned me.

I only started a Racing advisory Service because it was the only way I could beat the bookies and get money on. Through a discreet network of agents.

 You Win!

I started betting back in the 1980’s. Things were different then. We could ride a motorbike without a helmet. Seat belts didn’t exist. There were no speed camera’s.

Oh and it wasn’t an infringement of Racing Rules to Pay for Information. I owned or had  shares in upwards of 20 racehorses which were set up for gambles. The classic conversation with a jockey was “Make sure you win today … and there’ll be a nice present for you aferwards”

When the gamble was landed you gave everyone a “nice drink” or a brown envelope stuffed with cash!

Pay by Results

Nowadays in our “jobsworth” society with rules everywhere you can’t do that.

But there’s no better way to reward your informants  than to pay on results

It’s riskier for the Professional Horse Racing Advisor because no winners = no money! But I reward my contacts when they give us winners because it makes them hungry! Why would I expect anything different from you?

December 2013

Saturday 28th Dec

(Posted Friday midday)

LET IT RAIN…

There’s nothing easy about Saturday, particularly now the weather has had such an impact. Without looking for excuses in advance, it would be foolish for punters to bet as if conditions were normal. We may see some haphazard results.

At Chepstow in the Welsh Grand National at 2.35, where participants will need bottomless reserves of stamina and water wings, Merry King has always appealed as a likely candidate for this type of race. A step up in trip should suit; although, as mentioned, this will take a great deal of getting. Certainly not disgraced at Newbury in the Hennessy – a race that thus far is working out as well as could be expected – he competes here from the same mark and from the right end of the handicap.

Providing he copes with ground he has yet to face, Wilde Blue Yonder looks the clear form pick in the 3.25 and is hard to oppose. The novice he won at the last meeting has worked out particularly well, giving him the edge over main market rival, Stand To Reason who has to be feared, but will need to better an albeit comfortable Wincanton success to trouble Wilde Blue Yonder

BOXING DAY AND BEYOND…

This week – one of the most significant in the calendar – started with a tinge of sadness as we lost Chatterbox to a racing injury at Ascot and then, across the water and far away, came news that the legendary venue known as Hollywood Park had staged its last meeting. After an eleven-race program, commentator Vic Stauffer called time with the announcement: “Ladies and gentlemen, that concludes racing at Hollywood Park – the track of lakes and flowers. Good night.”

If it sounded somewhat trite, like a line from the Two Ronnies (And it’s good night from me and it’s good night from him), actually it was quite sombre.

Hollywood Park was one of the more picturesque of the American racecourses (of which, surprisingly there are not too many), and its passing, to make way for development, is symptomatic of modern cemented-over life.

Building more houses to make way for more people so they can produce more people on an already overcrowded planet seems to be the adopted mantra these days. Anyone heard the Joni Mitchell song Big Yellow Taxi and delved beyond her closing chortle?

The demise of Hollywood Park means the end of life as they knew it for all those that lived and worked there; those that held cherished memories of the likes of Seabiscuit, Citation, Cigar, John Henry, Affirmed and Zenyatta.

That’s progress they will tell you as the diggers assemble. Maybe they are right. Like the fine meal you had last night, once it is history, what difference does it make? A new generation can hardly miss what it never had. Sometimes it seems the world is beyond one’s grasp; that those calling the shots were never interviewed for the position they assume and therefore have dubious qualifications to hold it.

I realise all of this grumpiness and pathos is hardly appropriate for the season. One of the benefits of writing is that you can say what you wish. So long as it passes the edit it gets printed or blogged or exhibited on YouTube for others to smirk at. So sometimes you just feel like saying what is on your mind and to hell with the consequences.

I realise I should be wishing you all a great Christmas and hoping your turkeys (if you’ve managed to procure one) cook to a golden brown and accompany the Rioja and sprouts like everything was matched in some celestial place; but, if it’s all right with you, I shall leave that to others. I am sure you are not short of greetings. It seems to me one more proclamation of all good things from a complete stranger may be enough to send some of you over the edge. Or, once again, is that just me?

In recent years an aunt that has hitherto never shown the slightest interest in my welfare has started sending me a card. I say a card, actually it is little bigger than a square of toilet paper. It makes me wonder what possesses people to send infinitesimally small cards in the first place.

I mean, if it is matter of finances, my advice to them would be to cut out a yearly card and send a half-decent one every three years.

It is the same with presents. Surely the point of them is to show you have given the process some thought and to provide someone you care for with a gift they would perhaps like, but consider an indulgence and therefore would not buy for themselves. What thought goes in to grabbing any old pair of socks, chocolates, handkerchiefs or jumper before wrapping them up?

What it is with people dishing out instructions as to which presents they desire? You might as well just give them the money and tell them to get on with it. What about those that issue wedding-style lists?

What the racing powers that be have deemed to present us humble race goers with this Boxing Day is ten domestic meetings and three in Ireland. The Irish figure seems reasonable. The other one looks suspiciously like overkill.

However, Nature looks like having the final word. With more bad weather forecast between now and the weekend, chances are several venues will be more suited to staging water polo than horse racing.

Let’s face it, come Boxing Day Kempton is the only meeting of any import this side of the Irish Sea.

It is the equivalent of England against Argentina, more realistically, Arsenal against Chelsea (I know it ended nil-nil); why therefore does racing need its outposts to dilute an otherwise top class program? Sorry; silly me, I forgot – it’s all to do with the Levy and the turnover and punters losing enough money to finance the whole shebang and the man-in-the-moon.

So what about Kempton Park? London and its surrounding area is soaking wet and parts of it are battered and scarred and we have lost some trees, but otherwise the show goes on and it looks like conditions will be back to normal by Boxing Day.

The furniture stores will roll out last year’s sofas at greatly reduced prices, and you will be able to get a new kitchen at half-price and queue outside the big department stores to pick up sales bargains if you so desire. Life will resume. Huntingdon, Ffos Las, Wetherby, Sedgefield and Market Rasen will have to take their chances.

Kempton has not let us down. Vaniteux looked a very interesting recruit at Sandown earlier in the month and gets a chance to confirm that promise in the 12.50.

He faces a classy opponent in Dubai Prince, last seen on the Flat when beating none other than Side Glance in a Group 3 at York. He was then trained by Mahmood Al Zarooni – the Susanna Reid of the Godolphin operation.

There is however the not inconsiderable matter of eight flights to negotiate now. Undoubtedly capable of taking high rank over timber, Dubai Prince won on the steal at Leicester on his introduction, but Vaniteux’s race at Sandown looked to have more depth to it. He also won in a faster time; albeit that may now be negated by a 3lbs differential.

Even so, the phrase, ‘horses for courses’ was designed for an occasion such as this. Although Vaniteux would not be capable of blowing up Side Glance’s rotund bottom on the Flat, this is not Flat racing and I prefer his chance.

Two potentially decent chasers line up for the handicap chase that follows at 1.25. I always find it odd that horses without steeple-chasing experience are eligible to take part in a handicap – a situation that surely urges punters towards caution, something that can never be good for the Levy or turnover.

The fact remains that Urbain De Sivola and Western Warhorse could easily be ahead of their rivals here, but until we see them jump a fence we won’t know. Paying to find out is invariably expensive.

Just A Par looks like being odds-on in the next at 2.00. Granted a clear round he should win, although there are surely better ways of trying to finance Christmas expenses.

The assumed match between The New One and My Tent Or Yours adds more than a sprig of extra holly to the Grade 1 Christmas Hurdle.

At the prices it is hard to differentiate between them. Racing is not a game of football. Whatever your leanings here, it is not essential to support one or the other. On all known information it is tempting to assume My Tent Or Yours may have a touch more speed on a sharp track like this, but one fluff at a hurdle or one moment’s hesitation when it matters could change all that. Surely the sensible course of action (unless you are in possession of a scoop about one or the other) is to watch this from the bottom of a glass.

But the King George VI Chase looks a different matter, at least to me. You see, I feel I know the winner of this, and am confident I can discard several in the field.

Firstly, Al Ferof is a doubtful stayer. There is one in this race every year and 2013 is his turn to be it. Even if he does stay, his jumping is hardly bombproof. Inclined to take a chance with his fences, he looks a very unlikely winner to me.

Cue Card’s claims largely rest on his win last time in the Betfair Chase at Haydock. Whilst he could be a revelation now he is switched to three miles, he flopped in this last year and normally this is an event you only get one shot at.

That remark could prove to be an expensive generalisation; but, whilst wishing the Tizzards and all who sail therein all the best, the dangers of backing horses on the strength of one run is well documented.

Therefore, Dynaste, who has won four out of his six races over fences and finished second in the other two, lays a less complicated record on the line. This sharp three miles will suit (he is already a winner of the Feltham round here) and although beaten by Cue Card last time, gave the indication of blowing up at Haydock. This is his chance to step into the big time.

Silvianiaco Conti has an each-way chance but surely no more, whilst Riverside Theatre has already achieved one miracle victory this year. Although miracles are popular around Christmas, they are normally carefully rationed.

Last year’s winner, Long Run, is surely similarly dependent on an intervention of divinity. Even the application of blinkers – the last tool at the bottom of the box – look unlikely to help him win one of the most fiercely contested renewals in recent years.

So this is Dynaste’s race to lose. I suspect he will start favourite come the hour, and nominate him as the sole bet on the card.

Those of us in trouble come the last – a Class 3 handicap hurdle run at 3.45 – will need to adjust to the condition, as this race is unlikely to change it for the better. A losing afternoon’s betting is not the best way to end the Christmas holiday I know, but they are the rules players have to accept.

And for those of you watching one or two of the old films over the period; as Scarlett O’ Hara will say at the end of the marathon that is Gone With The Wind: “Tomorrow is Another Day”. Humphrey Bogart will add his tuppence-worth when uttering the immortal, “Here’s Looking At You Kid,” and, “We Will Always Have Paris,” later on Christmas Day, maybe they have a point.

In the meantime, stop now if you would prefer to be spared another seasonal greeting.

No, I can’t bring myself to do it. Have a Happy Dynaste!

SATURDAY DECEMBER 21st

ASCOT TIPS

3.35:

As you would expect for the prize-money, this is a tough handicap with plenty of possibilities.

Nicky Henderson fields two with real chances in the improving Rolling Star and Chatterbox.

Despite Barry Geraghty’s apparent preference for the former, Chatterbox shaped really well last time at Newbury after a well documented setback and could easily turn out to be the better of the two at these weights. Certainly his chance does not need arguing based on last season’s form. He is seen as holding the best chance of those at the top of the weights as improvement from Newbury is likely.

Flaxen Flare probably has a few pounds too many but should run a race.

Fellow Irish raider, City Slicker has to be respected but, with only limited hurdling experience, faces a stiff task against much better company than he has so far encountered.

Dell’ Arca is another dark horse that is raised 8lbs for his Greatwood win and could easily make his presence felt. Of those lurking at the foot of the handicap,

Totalize has been granted an opportunity by the handicapper with a mark of 131. Relative inexperience in such a cut and thrust handicap is something of a concern but he does have a chance at the weights (particularly with Flaxen Flare after a decent effort at last year’s Festival). He should be fit from a recent Flat outing and would surely not be making the journey south if less than match-fit or not carrying a modicum of stable confidence.

Flying in the face of common sense, Chatterbox may lift this, whilst a prominent showing is expected from the stoutly-bred Totalize.

LINGFIELD TIPS

2.35:

It seems fair to say Gatewood has not progressed since a highly encouraging return to action in this country at Doncaster in September.

He is capable of winning this but it is becoming a long time between drinks for him. Sure be thereabouts, he has most to fear from a possibly revitalised Tales Of Grimm, who got no run here last time. Once again the draw has not been kind to Tales Of Grimm, but with a reasonable slice of luck in running he rates a big danger.

CHELTENHAM

FRIDAY DECEMBER 13th

(posted Thursday 5.30pm)

12.30:

All things being equal this looks like a two-horse race. Oscar Whisky made a satisfactory fencing debut here last month in a muddling race won by Tarquin Du Seuil.

As he receives 8lbs from his main rival, Newbury winner Wonderful Charm, it is tempting to believe that may make the difference.

These two are chalk and cheese. Wonderful Charm is more of a chasing type that may lack the class of Oscar Whisky, but there is the small matter of the fences threatening to even the contest out. With bookmakers sure to bet tight, there is little percentage in punters’ favour.

1.05:

It is a struggle to uncover an obviously well-handicapped runner here, although two that have raced in Ireland look to have possibilities. Both Friendly Society and Hit The Headlines have chasing experience and may be capable of better than we have seen.

2.10:

Theatre Guide looks a reasonable selection having put up such a giant effort in the Hennessy a fortnight ago. His claims are obvious and providing the run does not come too soon after his Newbury exertions, he is hard to get away from.

3.45:

The card ends as it starts with a novice event, this time seemingly resting between three candidates in previous winners and therefore penalised: Ballyalton, Doctor Harper and Garde La Victoire.

The last named was very impressive last time at Warwick when sauntering away from previous winner Gone Too Far. There seems no reason why we should not take that run literally, in which case Garde La Victoire is taken to shade what should be an informative event.

SATURDAY

DECEMBER 7th

(posted Friday 5.45pm)

It seems we have made it to the Tingle Creek meeting at Sandown without incident. Despite Russia’s best attempt at sabotage via a severe mid-week weather front sweeping in from Siberia, the worst is behind us – at least for now.

Staying with the Soviet theme, as always this is a good meeting full of quality and intrigue, but its twists and turns are possibly more suited to a John Le Carre Cold War novel.

1.50:

Taquin Du Seuil lays Arkle pretensions on the line in the Henry VIII Novice Chase.

A determined winner at Cheltenham last time from Oscar Whisky, he gets a chance to take this next step up the ladder.

Second in this event last year to Captain Conan, Hinterland is certainly useful but has not progressed beyond that standard and threatens to be vulnerable once again.

Grandouet, notably a hurdler, needs to improve his jumping to become competitive in this company, whilst well regarded Balder Succes is hard to assess and could be anything.

One mistake could change the complexion of this but, assuming Taquin Du Seuil jumps with the same aplomb as we saw at Cheltenham last time, he looks like the one to beat.

2.25:

After his latest run in a competitive Cheltenham event won by handicap blot Quick Jack, Deep Trouble looks poised to go one better in this listed handicap. He faces several rivals with progressive profiles but looks sure to run his race.

3.00:

The Tingle Creek should only concern Sire De Grugy and Captain Conan, both of whom have won over fences on this track. Talk of Somersby being able to mix it on these terms at this level has so far proved wide of the mark. The same is likely to be the case again. For some reason Sire De Grugy never looked at ease last time at Cheltenham, risking life and limb with some chancy leaps in the closing stages when second to an on-song Kid Cassidy.

From a stable in form, he has every chance but does have two lengths to find on Captain Conan on their running in the Arkle Trial run at Cheltenham this time last year. It promises to be a tight contest.
